Glenn Beck drops bombshell - He is leaving Fox

By: Anne Thomas1

Before 2011 is over, Glenn Beck will step down from hosting duties of his eponymous Fox News program. This would correspond with the expiration of Beck's TV contract in Dec.. Beck reportedly will work with Fox News to produce "variety of television projects," also as content for Fox News' digital properties.

End date for 'Glenn Beck' not specified

Fox has had "Glenn Beck" going on weekdays at 5 p.m. This has been ever since 2009. The amount of extremists in the country is proven by the fact that Beck got 2.2 million viewers every day still on his program. This was regardless of the drop in ratings in the past year. The conspiracy theories, some with Hungarian-American financier George Soros in them, have gotten him a lot of criticism.

Beck went too far with Soros, Judaism and Obama critiques

There are several reasons why individuals suggest the "Glenn Beck" Fox News program is leaving behind. According to Business Insider, Fox News President Roger Ailes made the decision occur after being privately embarrassed by Beck. Beck was publicly recognized by Ailes though. Beck has started using the Glenn Beck insider website to post exclusive content. It would make sense that Fox may be interested in getting rid of the program. However, as an anonymous Ailes employee once told the media, when Ailes claims "I anticipate continuing to work with him," the real meaning is "don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Many believe it was all Becks' fault. His statements against Soros, which have been closely tied to comparisons Beck has made between reform Judaism and radicalized Islam, drew the ire of the Jewish Anti-Defamation League. The Christian Science Monitor states that Beck also turned away individuals because of comments he made. The "Obama is a socialist" and "Obama is a racist" comments made many angry, which Fox News may not even know.

Expecting control in Fox programs

Fox News has had a rough time getting Glenn Beck down unlike Fox News' heads that like to be controversial. The loss in advertising can be used. This can be Roger Ailes' excuse.

Beck doesn't have as many advertisers. The Fox News program has lost more than 1 million viewers over the past year, going from an average of 2.9 million in Jan 2010 to 1.8 million in Jan 2011, reports the Christian Science Monitor. Glen Beck's Mercury Radio program isn't aired in New York or Philadelphia anymore while the Beck Fox News show can't get advertisers such as Procter & Gamble, Walmart and Coca-Cola to advertise anymore. It was probably hard to lose so much advertising.
