Get an Attorney Free of Charge with a Pro Bono Attorney

The Latin expression "pro bono publico" is a phrase which literally means "for the good of the public." It is shortened as simply pro bono, an adjective that refers to any professional skills that is done without any monetary remunerations.

Even though the term is applicable to different classifications of voluntary professional works, it is normally used to refer to the practice of law. For this reason, the terminology pro bono lawyer is commonly used when referring to an attorney that is offering free legal services to the people who cannot afford quality legal services. The pro bono lawyers are usually successful lawyers who are also members of cause-oriented groups like human rights organizations.

They are idealists whose major purpose is is to make the society a better place by the advocacy of justice for all individuals, especially to the disenfranchised people. Most of these attorneys are activists that are pursuing humanitarian goals through legal measures. The causes that they pursue may range from the political to environmental.

Pro bono attorneys differs from the public attorneys that are provided by the government. The public attorneys are workers who get paid for their duties. So they are obligated to guard clients not for the reason that they have faith in a cause or they pursue idealistic goals. The public lawyers do their community service for the reason that it is their work.

Although the clients receive free services of public attorneys, the attorneys receive payment by doing their job. Therefore, their work is not free or pro bono. However, not every pro bono lawyers are necessary idealists or are motivated by a cause. Some are obliged by law or their organization.

For instance, a lawyer that might have been accused of a misdemeanor or some small offense might be ordered by the court to give community service by means of free legal counsel. Some states that compel practicing lawyers a minimum time span of free legal service every year.

Since the celebration has been institutionalized, there has been a constant increase of attorneys that present pro bono services. In other nations, persuading pro bono services is just limited to the demands that is exerted by the respective bar associations.

Lawyers are usually known for their costly service charge, but high rates is not for the pro bono lawyers. These attorneys offer services free of charge. Why would they act that way and why must you trust in a no charge service from a "most of us know", costly service?
