Flying With Powered Parachutes

The wish and urge to fly has been part of the human circumstance for centuries. When parachutes, para-sails, helicopters and airplanes were invented, humans took to the skies and have barely touched down on the ground since. Powered parachutes were created as a way for us to take to the skies, reaching new heights, while soaring silently and easily. But, a motorized version similar to this design had already flown in 1964. In March of 1981, Steve Snyder, Adrian Vandenberg and Daniel Thompson created the P-1 motorized parachute. Their initial flight only lasted approximately twenty five to thirty seconds, mainly since the paraglider they used suffered from torque problems. It took two additional years to fix the problems, and in 1983, the first commercial paragliders were formed.
