Florida Diving - A Scuba Diving Experience

By: Stephen Brown

Thousands of scuba scuba divers visit Florida on a Florida diving holiday due to the large variety of scuba dive sites you can find on the Florida coastline.
Florida has more coast line than any other state in the United States and with its southern location provides plenty of areas to scuba dive in clear and warm waters.
When we first look at the Atlantic coastline you will find a series of reef lines giving an outer reef, inner reef and middle reef. These reefs run along the coastline providing different diving experences from north of West Palm Beach all the way down the coastline to The Keys.
The Atlantic coast also gains from the waters of The Gulf Stream which runs parallel to the Atlantic coast before moving out into the deeper Atlantic waters.
This stream of warm water washes the reef systems off the coast and brings with it food that helps maintain the marine eco system on these reefs.
Florida diving shops are able to find a variety of dive sites along the coast.
Starting at Jupiter and working your way down south along the coastline you will find an marvelous span of reefs and shipwrecks to explore with some sites like Governor's River Walk Reef having well known wrecks such as the Shasha boerkanier which is one of three shipwrecks at this dive site.
For novice divers Florida diving in West Palm Beach also has striking reefs such as Breakers Reef.
Travel south down the coast and you find Ft. Lauderdale. Known as "The Venice of America" this is a marvelous place to visit on any Florida diving trip.
Apart from the canals and waterways Ft. Laud offers remarkable diving opportunities such as Tenneco Towers or Oil Platforms. Venture further south and you arrive at Miami.
Miami! Probably the only spot in the world you would expect to uncover Army tanks on the seabed.
Miami is a fantastic location to visit on a Florida diving holiday with locations like South Beach with its Art Deco and the many Miami attractions. There is also a vast choice of scuba dive sites due to the continuing artificial reef program.
Any Florida diving trip would not be complete without diving The Keys.
Key Largo has long been known as "The Scuba Diving Capital of the World" and when you see the choice of dive sites it's easy to see why.
Any Florida diving trip to Key Largo has to consist of a dive or snorkeling trip to Christ of the Abyss, one the most celebrated underwater statues in the world. Sunk in relatively shallow waters this statue is one of the most visited and photographed statues anywhere.
Molasses Reef is the site to visit if you love underwater photography. The shallow waters and first-class lighting makes this a striking reef on which to take macro photographs of the marine life.
Key Largo is the finest known by the Florida diving community for its wide choice of dive sites but Key West is the place to go for the nightlife and culture if you do travel to The Keys.
Many scuba divers prefer the complete package, fun in the water and out, and Key West provides both. Great dive sites and streets full of entertainment means the place is bouncing in the night so you can enjoy yourself 24 hours a day..
So far we have had a very fleeting look at the Atlantic coast and have not even tried looking on the west coast, The Gulf of Mexico, but that is for another day.
