They were members of a fun-loving, pompous society, concerned with a more materialistic, highly structured lifestyle which offered comfort, security and success. Previous generations have a very difficult time understanding the ideas and goals of the current generation. Our nation is going into a new era for community medicine in which students are more worried about the way medical care is provided to every part of society, which is founded on need instead of finances. A knowledgeable assistant professor who has led the charge for changing medical program goals and what they teach, states that even though the United States has thrown a lot of money at medical programs, the citizens and care they receive are most likely not going to improve any time soon. Indeed, these aspects could actually worsen if reform does not happen immediately. A certain association has been established mainly for the goal of steering med students to go into medical fields that target public health, environmental health, and preventive medicine. One of their programs includes sponsoring community oriented medical projects to help benefit communities and encourage aspiring doctors. It spends a lot of its time trying to get medical programs to have students participate in some of these projects. One of the organization's student program directors said that the majority of the medical students who participated in various projects said they were seriously interested in coming back to the areas to practice medicine. In addition to opening clinics and sponsoring projects in disadvantaged communities, a number of hospitals and medical schools have expressed an interest in training doctors from minority groups.
