Metrosexuality is common to many men these days. I don't think this lifestyle is opposed to the macho persona. Who ever thought that being macho means not having to take a bath? This made me recall the Charles Bronson commercion on Mandom. Machismo wasn't separated from what-is-soon-to-be-called metrosexuality then. But does having a metrosexual lifestyle a luxury or a necessity? Being conscious with our personal hygiene; I think this was taught to us when we were still kids by our parents. Quite personally, I could say that I always had an aversion to unclean objects. My parents told me that the first word that I have learned when I was still a baby was "dirty". So even then, I was already going to that path. I can even remember when I was still in grade school that our teacher had this policy to always have clean fingernails. Classmates who were guilty of having dirt under the nails went through the rolling pencil ordeal. What happens is that the fingers are flattened using a pencil, just like a dough being flattened by a rolling pin. A sign that says "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" is posted all over the school. The lack of hygiene, in my case, has an uncomfortable effects on my body. I would develop rashes and I would be itching all over if I don't take a bath. If I don't use a certain kind of shampoo, dandruff would break out and my head would be itching non-stop. I am prone to pimples because of my oily skin so I have to keep my face clean at all times. On the other hand, when I used to wear my hair longer, I went to the beauty salon because barbers can only handle short hair. My head was flat on the backside so that a short razor cut wouldn't do it for me. My hair looks thicker when grown long because it is straight and limp. Obviously, barbers don't do hair styling, they just cut it short and that's it. Barbers don't care about hair condition or how it looks, they just cut it short. Hairstylists, on the other hand, know what type of hair would fit the shape of your head and your face. Thus, barbers are more like civil engineers and hairstylists are architects. You see, having a metrosexual way of life does not mean that it is borne out of luxury. It's not about having a soft girly side. This body just wasn't designed to withstand the lifestyle of a caveman.

The majority of men have developed a metrosexual lifestyle nowadays. I don't think this lifestyle is opposed to the macho persona. No one ever said that one becomes macho if he does not take a bath. I remember the old Mandom commercial with Charles Bronson on the lead. Machismo wasn't separated from what-is-soon-to-be-called metrosexuality then. Nevertheless, it all comes down to weather having a metrosexual lifestyle is a need or a luxury.
