Exploring The Stargate Universe

By: dick dicksonn

An entire age group mourned the end of Stargate SG:1 – arguably the best sci-fi saga in the history of TV. With 10 terms below its belt, Stargate SG:1 is one of the longest standing sci-fi TV programs ever, thrashing celebrities in the field such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and the original Twilight Zone.

But the legion of fans that have enjoyed the series throughout the years find comfort in the fact that the show’s spin-off series, Stargate Atlantis, was still on the air.

That is, until Stargate Atlantis was also yanked off the airing plan, announcing the current 5th season as its end.

What must the multitudes of Stargate enthusiasts anticipate? Surely, not a new cartoon series based on the franchise, correct?

Here comes Stargate Universe, a novel take on the TV program, albeit one which will transpire in the same universe populated by humans and Goulds, among other races.

Stargate Universe, as numerous viewers have noticed, is really a mixture of Stargate and Star Trek, two of the most well-known and most influential science fiction franchises in the 20th century. Stargate Universe doesn’t restrictedly revolve on the Stargates that have turned into the staple of previous television programs in the series, although the Stargates are still the core points of the stories. Instead Stargate Universe utilized a spaceship much similar to the U.S.S. Enterprise.

As the tale goes, an olden vessel released by an old society has been unearthed. The spacevessel, which was named Destiny, was lodged by a team of travelers, specifically Colonel Everett Young, Tamara Jon, Chloe Carpenter, Eli Hitchcock, Lt. Jared Nash, and Ron "Psycho" Stasiak.

But Destiny has a pre-planned course, past the control of its crew.

Thus, the spaceship commenced its adventure, taking with it the team of travelers to fantastic stars to meet new acquaintances and new foes, performing some unknown undertakings planned by the old civilization.

Is the Destiny destined to be a vehicle that will unite the world, or a weapon that is meant to destroy it?

Certainly, the dynamics of the franchise have been changed with the coming presentation of Stargate Universe. But as a Stargate viewer would tell you, a rose by any other name would hum just as sweet.

Even though that rose obtains the form of an intergalactic battle cruiser.
