Engine tuning has a long history. It is probably as old as the early development of cars particularly those early racing cars. Today car tuning is now very common to car owners not only for race cars but also to public utility vehicles. Why not? It can improve your car’s performance and even its life span. Engine tuning is defined as adjustment, modification, alteration or conversion of the car’s internal combustion engine purposely to produce optimum driving performance and to increase power output from the engine. It also includes changing of the engine design. It covers a wide variety of modifications. It may be only an adjustment of the carburetor and ignition system or it can be as extensive as overhauling of the engine itself. As car owner, one must understand the importance and necessity of engine tuning modification. Owning a car is like having another member of the family so you have to care for your car because you drive it every day. It carries you to safety every time you drive it with your family. Car tuning is one of the several ways to make sure that your car is properly running and avoid any accident or inconvenience due to engine malfunction. There are a lot of things one must learn about engine tuning modification before subjecting a car to the process, below are some of those: 1.In car tuning you have consider the model or type of engine you have with your car. Old types of engines use different modification than modern engines. The former requires regular maintenance like setting up the idle speed, adjusting carburetor balance, fuel and air mixture, ignition system, spark plug and distributor point gaps. On the other hand, modern engines have electronic ignition and fuel injection which sometimes doesn’t need human intervention to be adjusted. They are automated, although they may be calibrated regularly for more pop in their performance. There is what is called “chip tuning” where calibration is automatic. This is usually installed in expensive racing cars and is beneficial on turbo charged cars. 2.If you have not checked your car yet for a longer period, overhauling your engine is a must. It is a modification of engine where you have to put the engine back to the former factory specification. It is like restoring the engine to the same setting when you bought it. It usually involves changing old piston rings, bearings and gaskets to new one. The effect is like having a new engine. 3.One of the aspects of car tuning is performance tuning. It is commonly used in race cars where top car speed is always tested. What are tuned here are the power output, torque and durability of the car. The car design is likewise considered to take on the pressure and speed of the car. Although this is commonly used for race cars, any car may be tuned for its performance just to have that wonderful driving experience. 4.One of type of aspect of car tuning or engine modification is “blueprinting”. It is a process of double checking the specifications provided by the car manufacturer. This is intended to make sure that speed performance of the car is in optimum level. Parts are weighed, matched and precisely machined. Usually done in race cars this makes sure that the rated power of the car is put into test and retains reliability at high rpm.
