Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a method used in energy psychology, a branch of Alternative medicine, that has often been described as “acupuncture for the emotions,” but without the use of needles. To say it another way EFT therapy is acupressure for the emotions. Within the expanding field of energy medicine it is the fastest growing therapy devoted to stress and related untoward emotions. In this area, it is used most for natural pain relief, PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder), anxiety, phobias, mild depression, and negative emotions in general. Within the Alternative Medicine field of energy psychology, traditional acupuncture is used in many variations of this ancient healing art, since it is different from one country, region or culture, to the next. The developer of EFT, Gary Craig, has found yet another way to use the basic knowledge and skills of the ancient Chinese meridian system of acupressure to benefit and neutralize emotional challenges. Emotional freedom Technique is simply a brilliant modification of a 5,000 healing art whose value and validity have been proven by the test of time, and it is being applied to area of energy psychology. When used appropriately, the effect of EFT is to balance the flow of energy within the acupuncture meridian pathways by means of a simple tapping procedure on a small group of acupuncture points found on the trunk, face and hands. The purpose of the EFT procedure is to restore balance and movement of this energy system, thus neutralizing emotional interference and distress at its source. Once done, the body and mind will almost immediately correct and repair the corrupted emotional circuit within the energy pathway. As a result, the mental circuit that was “tapped on” with the EFT method will no longer cause a distress response when it is used. After tapping on the distressed mental circuit will then feel calm, in control and completely comfortable when engaged in the formerly distressing memory or event. EFT is safe, non-invasive, easy to use, and often does not require repeated or prolonged therapy. It is a member of the new and rapidly expanding category of Energy Medicine, known as Energy Psychology, and it is being accepted within the medical community and public at amazing speed. Gary Craig, a Stanford engineer and personal performance coach in California, developed EFT in the mid-90s. He has dedicated his life’s work to teaching any one who will listen, how to use EFT to overcome emotional and physical blocks to successful living. This inability to live successfully might take the form of migraine headaches, fear of snakes, inability to break 100 on the golf course, cancer, or anger with an unloving spouse. Gary works within the traditional medical community, because of his remarkable generosity to share his discovery with the world. All great things that Emotional Freedom Technique can accomplish can be easily and quickly in a traditional office setting or while doing EFT by phone. Phobias, worry, anxiety, fear, sleeplessness, and a wide host of negative emotions can be nicely treated with the energy psychology of EFT. After a few EFT telephone sessions, most people notice they are decidedly more calm and controlled in their everyday encounters. EFT is considered one of the most consistently effective, efficient, and gentle treatments within Energy Medicine. Because all scientists acknowledge the human body is far more than a mass of independent organs and tissues, it also possesses an emotional mind that perfectly interrelates with the physical body. The human body in a most fundamental way is an "energy configuration" of complex positive and negative electrical charges arising from the same atoms found in a diamond, a fish, a blade of grass, or the planet Mars. We are all the human living, breathing, thinking and feeling expression of the molecular "building blocks of all matter," as was elegantly expressed by Einstein in his famous Theory of Relativity, E=MC2. Thus did Einstein declare to the world that all matter, wherever and however it is found in the universe, is all on the same energy continuum. Applying the simply energy of acupressure tapping to the mass of energy of the human body, we can expect a change in the energetic response of the emotions. Thus, EFT is a remarkable method to applying the profound wisdom of Einstein and giving it back to the world of human emotion. EFT is gentle and easy to use, and has continually demonstrated not only a remarkable capacity to relieve emotional and physical distress, but to do it rather quickly, and often when other methods have failed. No side effects have been reported in the literature against the hundreds of thousands of EFT rounds that have been done during the last 15 years. However, this does not mean that you might not experience side effects. If someone intends to use EFT methods, then each person must take full responsibility for the benefits and untoward consequences of applying EFT methods to the troubled mind. If have any doubt or hesitancy exists about EFT methodology, it would be best to consult a trained EFT therapist who full knowledge of the technique.
