By: Chris C Ducker

It is estimated that about 186 million people worldwide speaks the official language of Egypt – Arabic. It is indeed the most popular dialect in the Middle East and North Africa, with its use in Egyptian media like film, television shows, newspapers, and music. With the fact that it is a popular language, lessons on Arabic are very common and easily accessible, especially with the help of the Internet. However, if one were to learn Arabic, they would realize that it is a challenging but beautiful language to learn.

The easiest way to learn Arabic nowadays is by using the Internet. The fantastic thing about the Internet is that you are able to find many websites offering free lessons on the Arabic language. Some may come as websites, while others may use blogs. Just be sure to choose the correct dialect to find the suitable web lesson. Start off with basic vocabulary, phrases and grammar, and eventually you will be able to form your own Arabic sentences.

Another thing you could do is to watch Arabic movies. Arabic movies show more natural exchanges of conversation between people, so you would not be so stiff with the language. Plus, when you watch Arabic movies, you will have the opportunity to expand your Arabic vocabulary as you are introduced to more words. Otherwise, you could listen to Arabic broadcasts online instead, like on BBC website, Al-Arabiya, Al-Jazeera, and so on. If you enjoy music, you can listen to songs in the language as well. With rhythm, it is actually easier to remember the words. It is also a good way to learn phrases and expand your vocabulary.

On the other hand, you can see what YouTube has to offer. Like any other languages, there are a number of YouTube instructional videos, so find one that you can follow easily and suits your learning style. You could also look up iTunes for language learning podcasts so you can easily access to your lessons wherever you go to.

However, no matter how much you watch or listen online, none of it will be effective without practice. Practice the language where you are comfortable to speak out loud, perhaps at home. You could even look for people to practice with you. In fact, if you go to language exchange websites, you will be able to find many willing partners who would teach you Arabic in exchange for your native language. This way, both sides benefits from one another.
