Diverting Your Child's Attention With The Interesting Corn Toss Game.

By: Dave Threadcraft

For a young child to have a social and emotional development it is necessary for the primary caregiver to have a good relationship with the child. In a world where both parents are working and busy, it is important for them to spend time with their child, like having dinner together, playing games together and spending time talking to them and more importantly listening to what they have to say. Listening needs to be at its best and serious especially when a child comes up with a problem which may seem childish to us, but nevertheless it is a problem for the child anyways. Always remember never to crack jokes or make fun of the problem they come up with.

Sometimes you may not be able to keep yourself serious during which you need to get something else going to divert their attention to an extent where they will forget their worries temporarily. The all weather corntoss game will come in handy during such situations. Few other games might also help. The reason I stress on this yard game is because you can play it with ease and children will get engrossed in the game. Other reasons for playing this game are because the child will get a good amount of exercise without getting tired and chances of accidents are minimal.

When we look back and see the origin of this game, we see that it originated in the farmlands of Germany. After several years it was again rediscovered in the hills of Kentucky and in a short span of time it spread across America and we also have an official American Cornhole Association-ACA. This game which was once a rural game played by simple farmers, has found it way through the urban cities and is growing successfully. We even see various cornhole competitions being conducted and played are regular intervals at various parts of US. Another version of this same game is the tailgating version. We also see that this game is being played at various parties. The game is truly enthralling but at the same time simple to play.

Various other names given to this same game are corntoss, cornhold, beanbag, beanbag toss, bags and baggo. Couple of cornhole boards and eight corn bags is all what we need to play this game. There needs to be a hole of diameter 6" on each cornhole board which is slightly slanted with the higher end near the hole. The corn bags are in the shape of a square with 6" as the length of each side. The two cornhole boards are kept at a distance of 33' away from each other and the player will have to stand next to the board awaiting his turn. When a player has his turn, he will have to pitch the bags correctly in the hole of the board on the opposite side. If he manages to pitch the bag into the hole, he gets 3 points. If the corn bag does not go into the hole but only touches the board, the he would get only 1 point.

Some corn toss game sets may not be weatherproof. In competitions, ACA does not allow weatherproof game sets. According to the specifications given by ACA we find that the boards have to be made of plywood; however, on the other hand we see that weatherproof boards are made of plastic and will not fall under the specifications mentioned by ACA. Similarly according to the specifications given by ACA the corn bags have to be made of duck cotton and these bags should be filled with feed corn. The weatherproof bags are usually made of material or cloth that is water proof and then filled with plastic palettes which again does not fall under the specifications given by ACA.

If your idea is to take part in the competitions some day, buy regulation boards because the play of the feed corn bags on the plywood board, is different from the play of the all weather bags on plastic boards. If, on the other hand your aim is to play with the kids at home or with friends at bar-be-queues and tailgating, buy all weather corn toss game set. The regulation sets require utmost care. Leave them out one night and you will find the boards swollen and the bags wet with dew or torn by squirrels or crows.

The toss game as a whole provides enough exercises, but its biggest contribution is to draw the couch potatoes away from their TV shows and chips. Therefore, order an all weather corn toss game set today to introduce your family into the magic world of tossing and jumping (with delight and that too is a big exercise). Such a set will not need much care but will last years, providing fun and exercise simultaneously.

However, some people will never touch the all weather corn toss game sets. This is what most of them say:
1. The game is called corn toss game, not plastic palette toss game. Then why should they play with bags filled plastic pallets.
2. You do not feel you are playing corntoss without the cloud of the dust that arises out of the broken down corns as the bags hit the boards. "Dust is a must," they would say.
3. The dust helps the bags to slide more and play better.
4. The feel of the bags containing real corn is far superior - they say. What do you say?
