Trapani is a beautiful city that lies on the West Coast of Sicily in Italy. It is also the capital of the Trapani Province. The building of the defenses was finished in the year 1671 by Viceroy Claudio La Moraldo, who was the Prince of Ligny. It is a magnificent sight to behold and reminds you of the past territorial conflicts that this now peaceful town has gone through. It now houses a museum that displays interesting artifacts called the Prehistoric Museum. Trapani Airport is a busy hub for budget airline Ryanair. There is the much loved and cherished 14th-century statue of the Madonna and the child within the Capella della Madonna that is located within the sanctuary. The museum boasts an extensive collection of exhibits all depicting the various eras through which Trapani has passed. It has an impressive collection of medieval items which includes a guillotine. Another place worth a visit is the sacred Misteri of Trapani statues at the Chiesa del Purgatorio, which includes twelve statues of the apostles. These statues are taken out every year on a grand procession for Good Friday.
