Different Tactics to Build a List

By: Kim Brockman

If you're trying to market online, you know that having a large, purchasing mailing list is of primary importance. In fact, you'd be spinning your wheels if you weren't putting most of your efforts into building such a list once you have your product finalized and website live.

There are plenty of guides out there on how to build a email list, and they will teach you the basics. All advise creating a an item you can giveaway for free relating to your niche, then promoting this giveaway with a squeeze page where people who want it will give you their email address. This article is for you if you understand that process and have already begun marketing your opt-in page in all the usual places -- safelists, forum signatures, published articles, newsletter ads, etc. Here are some techniques of adding to your list that are a little more unusual, but effective.

Tables at the Fair

Set up a spot at the local county or state fair. This will have an associated cost but it will be worth it.

Find a physical product you can obtain at a low price and give away. It should be something of value or something neat that relates to your niche. Include a letter or flyer with the URL for your squeeze page. You could easily gather hundreds of local list members for a day's work.

Using Flyers

Write up a quick eye-attracting sales flyer about your opt-in page freebie. Print up a few hundred copies. Then post it everywhere you can think of - in the park, community bulletin boards, grocery stores, utility poles in high foot traffic areas - everywhere.

After you've hit all your local areas, pay someone so much per post to put them up in more remote areas. Doing this you can not only post them more quickly, but you can reach areas you couldn't get to yourself; perhaps globally! This will cost you a little cash, but thousands more people could see your flyer. Don't forget to get proof that the person you hired has actually put up as many flyers as he or she claims. Requiring digital pictures is one good way. Or, if they're close enough, randomly audit the locations.

Advanced JV Swap

This is for those with a good-sized list now who want to increase its size.

Find a Clickbank product in your niche with a low gravity rating, say 10-30. Contact the owner saying you'll mail their sales letter to your list without an affiliate link, just the owner's own page if, in exchange, the owner will place your squeeze page ad on the thank you page.

Tell the owner you'll also show him a proven way to raise his gravity rating. When he agrees you give him the link to CBCentrifuge.com with directions to build about 20 affiliate accounts and place them in the free CB Centrifuge software. This software rotates those affiliate accounts whenever the owner's own site makes a sale. This, in turn, raises his gravity rating. A bigger gravity score means more affiliates will work to sell the product.

You'll get a tremendous boost in your list and a new joint venture partner who will follow you wherever you go!

Review Books on Video

Many people know you can write book reviews for items for sale at Amazon, but not everyone is aware you can do so on video. The first thing you need to do is find a book in your niche at Amazon.com. You can buy it there or elsewhere or even get it from your library and read it. Record and upload a video of yourself talking about the book. Be sure to tell the ways it helped you in your business or your niche.

Before you upload it to Amazon, you need to do one or more of the following. First, you can overlay the URL for your opt-in page unobtrusively on the video. Second, at the end of your video review, invite watchers to learn more about your niche topic by visiting your site and becoming a member of your list. Thirdly, make sure your web address is in your member profile at Amazon. That way when people click on your name, they'll link to your site.

Remember, people visiting Amazon are most likely there to purchase. This is exactly the type of list member you want most.

Conclusion

When it comes to list-building your imagination is the only limit. Think locally and globally. Think online and offline. Give things away now so you can sell things later, over and over again!
