Diet Programs for Diseases

By: Gen Wright

Take for example the diabetic diet. Millions of people from all over the world suffer from Diabetes. This disease can lead to hypoglycemia, impotence, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and coronary heart disease, among others. The diabetic diet aims to make sure that people suffering from diabetes will not have to suffer from the complications already mentioned. Half of the food of the person undergoing this diet program should be carbohydrates. A quarter should be for fats, and the other quarter for protein. They are also advised to eat whenever they want but consume little amounts. They should drink plenty of water and eat more fruits and vegetables.

Liver is one of the most important organs in the body. It cleans the bloods from harmful entities, and it displaces non-functioning blood cells. The liver does not regenerate, so if it becomes damaged, it can no longer go back to they way it used to be, and more importantly, it can no longer perform the jobs it needs to perform. But with how some people drink excessively and eat too much fatty foods, they seem to not care for their livers. Dr. Sandra Cabot’s Liver Cleansing Diet aims to change this. Cabot claims that this diet has many benefits including solving bloating problems and difficulty to lose weight, providing answers for problems on allergies, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, poor digestion and obesity. This diet program also requires that some vegetables be eaten raw.

Arthritis is a condition that attacks the joints of the body. Most old people are affected by this condition, which could also cause disability. Arthritis has two kinds—Osteoarthritis, which is made worse by the overweight condition of old people and; rheumatoid arthritis, which causes inflammation in joints of mostly older women. The Arthritis Diet encourages people undergoing this program to take in more Vitamin C, which are present in citrus fruits, and Vitamin E. Fish rich in oil such as salmon, codfish, sardines, and tuna are also recommended. So are ginger and turmeric. They, however, should stay away from dairy products and fatty meat and other foods that have high saturated fat.

People cringe at the mere mention of cholesterol. It should be noted, though, that there are good and bad cholesterols. Everyone should stay away from bad cholesterols because they do not dissolve in blood and in effect can block the arteries in the heart. People who have problems with their cholesterol levels should try the Portfolio Diet which was developed in Canada. This diet program recommends foods such as oats, okra, legumes, raw almonds and soy to lower the bad cholesterol levels in the body by 35% in just one month, or so it claims.
