Dallas, Texas Facts

Dallas is the third largest city in the state of Texas with an estimated population of approximately 1.3 million. Its 12 county metropolitan area has over 6.3 million people and is the fastest growing metropolitan area in the nation.

There are endless opportunities for entertainment in Dallas. From music to sports to art; Dallas has it all.

The Arts District in the northern section of Downtown is home to several arts venues, both existing and proposed. Notable venues in the district include the Dallas Museum of Art, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, The Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, The Dallas Contemporary, and The Dallas Children's Theatre.

Dallas also boasts a wide array of sports teams. Home to the Dallas Desperados (Arena Football League), Dallas Mavericks (National Basketball Association), and Dallas Stars (National Hockey League). All three teams play at the American Airlines Center, where you can often find the biggest names in music performing when the AAC is not being used for sporting events.

America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys also have their home in the newly constructed and anticipated Cowboy Stadium, the mega-venue built by Cowboy’s owner, Jerry Jones. The 2011 Super Bowl will be held at Cowboy Stadium, which is located in Arlington, a part of the metropolitan area. The Texas Rangers Dallas' Major League Baseball team, are also based in Arlington.

The State Fair of Texas is held each year in Dallas’ own Fair Park, where it has been held since 1886. The fair season usually begins the last Friday in September and ends 24 days later. The State Fair of Texas is the largest state fair in the United States by annual attendance.
