I am a professional sysadmin and each day i used to go to dnsstuff.com. It was very easy there, i could find everything quickly and i have been stunned when they've converted their business model to the pay per use mechanism. Surfing the internet i have found http://www.dnsqueries.com , it was last february, and i started using it for my network tests, during my all-day-long activity. Firstly i tell you one important thing: it's not dnsstuff, can be similar, it's free and since it has unobstrusive ads it's working with little money. But it's free and does what it's ment to do quickly and accurately. I mainly use a subset of their tools, and here i write about those functionalities, but i know they have tools for webmasters, programmers, site owners and so on. The functionality i use the most is "DOMAIN HEALTH CHECK", a very good test that improves the DNS configuration, the webserver and also the mailserver. I find it very useful, and usually i use it to report "all-ok-messages" to my customers. The print button formats the report page in a handy way, very suitable to a fax communication. The only limitation is for International Domain Names, they are not supported, but i've found a quick method to avoid this: i convert the IDN via the Punycode converter they provide! I actually perform "DNS LOOKUP" on the site. It's handy and fast. It resolves all types of dns query in a human readable way, formatting results so that can be read by a gerbill. Another tool i use everyday is the "DNS TRAVERSAL", since it doesn't cache DNS results it handles all those completely messed up configurations, the ones i used to pray not to happen. DNS traversal suffers of the same problem already enumerated for "DNS Health Check". Sometimes a customer asks me why his hosting provider is so slow: i point him to the "IP NEIGHBORS" tool, which shows him how many hosts are on his IP address, and how much his supplier is overselling space. During the last month i've tried the toolbar for Firefox: a nice piece of code, bringing the tools directly in my favourite browser. They lack of fantasy for the icons, they can be really better, but the toolbar is very useful and has incredible benefits to my all day long work. A must have, really. Finally they have done a really good job, setting up a site with "people that works" in mind. Good job guys!

We are talking about DNSQueries.com, a free site providing a complete set of network tools. The site is up and running from gen 2009 and actually is the real state of the art for dns configuration and dns queries.
