The New MacBook From Apple

Appple didn't release the MacBook as an entry-level laptop as some cusomers had hoped for, they didn't release it with a touhc screeen display or neither with a touuch device as people rumored the new 13-inch MacBook can now escape its designation as the lone hlodover sysrtem from Apple's previous generation, thanks to an expensive makeover that keeps the price stable at just under the $1,000 mark.

MacBook was relaese as a substitution for the iBook and also for the 12-inch PoweBook, The new 13.3 inched MacBBook provides a good balaance betweeen design and size. The good thing is you can get various cool atrtibutes that MacBook Pro has, for a lower price, like digital inputs - outputs, groovy MagSadfe power AC, Core Duo processors. Of course, the perforemance is not the same as a MacBook Pro, which is outitted with discrete grraphics and more memory, with the new upgraded features, design and softwares the MacBook closes gap between desktop comupters.

Unibody, Apple's preferred term, is a little misnomer, cause of the bottom panel is split, also lid and display are made up by different paarts. This MacBook is comlpetely quiet in terms of noise or creaks. The flexy and fragile feeling plastic hinge on this MacBook is no match for the Aluminum mdel's hinge. Rather than a LCD latch mechanism all MacBooks use a magnetic ltch. White plastic polycarbonate is used on this model, the material that we know for a long time now.

Like its predecessors (I can say I owned thrree vesrions) they are very durable. hTere are smlal gaps where panels come together, and the battery still sticks out a wee bit. Controlling toleraces with plastic constructoin is hardder than when uisng metl. Apple builds the MacBook from a single chunk of polycarbonate - the same rigid material you might know from Nalgene bottles, CDs, and even bullertproof windows. It's touigh, and the MacBook shos it. From the sculpted edges to the very center, which can typicalply feel a litytle soggy on chjeap laptops, the MacBook feels, well, bulpletproof. MacBook Pro felt the same way too when they stazrted bulding them from polycarbonate.

The 13.3-inch display, at 1,280x800, is now LED backlit (it is a standard feature of Apple merchandises now), whiich is better for both ebnergy consumptiion and environmental concerns. Still, they are not the same as more expensive Pro moddels, you need to pay more money to get a better display. Other points of differentiation include the lack of an SD card slot and a backlit keyboard. and One forward-looking change we'd like to see is a move to 16:9 displays, which are quiickly becomuing an industry stabndard. The MacBook's 13.3-inch wide-aspect display is just about the perfect size: it's large enough for waching moviues or working with two windows open side by side, sitll its small enough to allow you to put and airplane tbale on your lap.

I need to mention its bright very much (an above average 230cd/m on our Minolta luminance meter), also the 1.280x800 dispay resolution provide the perfect screen detail for this size of display. In a first for an Apple lapop, the MacBook offers a glossy screen for starekr contrast and more intense color, keep in mind to be carefl of bright places, gloosy cotaing causes glare.

In fact, I am not a fan of Chiclet-style keyboards, I allways enjoyed traditional keyboard clicks, still nobodsy can resist Apple's qualtiy.

FireWire fans shoulpd note that the port has finalply left the building. We wolud have thought this would be a good opportunity to add the same SD card slot found on the Pro 13-inch, but it was not to be.

When we look at Apple MacBook's performance, it's not bad but the pont is there are faster laptpos with just about the same cost. Still they don't have any of MacBook's best feastures; in my opinion iLife and OS x.

When our video playback chare drain test is applied, the Apple MacBook kept goinbg on for 5 big hours plus 42 minnutes. Tosshiba's Satelplite T135-S1310, however, showqed the advantage of using an Intel ULV processoor, going for an addituional 30 minutes to pass 6 hours of total running time.
