Coffee Machines from discountcoffee.co.uk

By: Gareth Hoyle

If you’re looking for the best coffee machine out there, you’ll find it very difficult to make the choice between a myriad of options without a little know-how. You could spend days discussing it with your local baristas, who are automatically more likely to push you towards one or other of the various coffee machines available in their store, or you could spend about the same time researching online. Or you could take our advice and look for these five key essentials in a coffee machine.

* Look at your price range – but be realistic – it’s important to keep in mind that though the cost of electronics and kitchen appliances have dropped, you still have to pay a little for a high quality machine. It’s especially true the adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ – ordinarily cheap coffee machines make poor coffee. Low quality coffee machines may also not work as you expect, or worse, ruin perfectly good coffee because they heat poorly, too fast or ‘burn’ your coffee. They may be difficult to clean, or conversely, uncleanable.
* Look out for discounts – you may find that with a little online research that you can find that perfect machine, for a lower cost – this isn’t the same as buying a ‘cheap’ machine – as if you’re getting a discount, you’ll be getting the better machine, for a better price. Many sites specialise in selling machines cheaply, because of manufacturer discounts and more.
* Do you use a specific type of coffee? If you like a ‘Tassimo’ machine, you’re best to look out for one of them – and you can buy coffee pods for them in supermarkets – whereas, if your favourite coffee is Starbucks, ask about exclusive machines designed by them to work with their brand of coffee. It’s important to remember, however that with the exception of specialist machines, you can make coffee from just about anywhere in the appropriate type of machine.
* Do you *need* specialist equipment?

Unless you’re specifically keen on heating your milk with steam, or grinding your coffee yourself, you shouldn’t get something with extra ‘frills’ – especially if you can remove the bells and whistles and go for a lower ‘level’ machine at a better price. It’s very rare to find someone that uses all of the attachments on their machines that aren’t true connoisseurs, so consider that before buying your dream machine.

* Do you need a no frills machine or one with functions such as a timer?

Depending on the function needs of your machine, you may find you can rule out some or most of the machines you’re looking at - though, of course, you may find that the higher end functions take the machines of your choice out of your price range.
