When it comes to poker, not every poker strategy works with every player. The thing is that different types of poker players would have different types of strategy. Hence, in order to accommodate to the right strategy, you will need to identify the different types of poker players. There are four general types of poker players in which you can adapt your strategy to play the direct opposite of their playing style so that you can attack their weaknesses in the game. Just keep to a basic strategy you are familiar with and adjust accordingly and you will be able to make use of your knowledge of the different types of players. The first type would be the loose-aggressive. Like the name suggests, the loose-aggressive are not selective with their starting hands so they will be constantly raising before and after the flop while playing too many hands. For that reason, the chances of them not holding good cards are also there, whereby they would then be aggressive in the game to create pressure against their opponents so that they will fold the winning hands. To play against loose-aggressive players, you will need to just be patient to get your best hands. Then when you do get them, you will reap more value in a win than from the numerous small wins they have won instead. The loose-passive, likewise, plays too many hands; however, they differ in the sense that they would continuously call bets when the best strategy is to fold or raise. Basically, the loose-passive play based on luck, and tends to disregard or is fully ignorant of pot odds. This mindless and fully reliant on luck style of playing is sometimes called “Calling Stations” for the fact that all they do is call for bets throughout the game. However, you will never know what hands they have. On the other spectrum would be the tight-passive player, which knows exactly what they should start with or not to play, making them excellent players before the flop. However, they do not always protect their hands as they are keener on checking and calling instead of raising, where the opposing players will take advantage of getting the correct odds so they can try to hit their draw. They are also very easy to read, where when they bet, it usually means they have a hand. Last would be tight-aggressive players that are considered the most successful players. They are the type that not only knows which is the correct starting hands, they also make sure that they are in the correct positions. And as the name suggests, they aggressively play when in the pot and would bet and rise when they distinguish that it is the correct timing, which at the same time, pressures the opponents. When it comes to playing against passive and loose players, this is the best poker strategy to adopt, as they would play the odds in their favor.
