I was a single mom getting ready to start a new assignment. I was a yellow page rep and I was getting ready to check out a new territory. Parking was a major problem in that area, so I decided to ride the bus and check the area first. I arrived at the bus lot on the first Monday following the New Year’s Weekend, but to my surprise it was packed with people waiting for buses. I live in Northern Virginia and it had snowed the night before, so all the buses were off schedule. I parked my car and waited with the other riders for a bus. When a bus finally arrived everybody at this bus stop lined up to get on this one bus. I was totally confused. This was not the bus I was looking for. I had no idea where this bus was headed, but I was not going to be left at the bus stop alone. I turned to the people getting on the bus and said “Can someone tell me how to get to Crystal City?” This lone voice in the back said “FOLLOW ME” and I got in line with the other riders. It had been years since I rode a bus.... The last time I rode a bus you gave the bus driver your money and he gave you change and put the money in the money box. But this was like the new credit card commercials. I gave the bus driver a $20 dollar bill and the entire operation came to a screeching halt. The bus ride only cost a quarter (it was a while ago). I was almost run over by people waiting behind me to get on the bus and to put their money in the money box. My Knight pushed me ahead and put the quarter in the money box for me. I was on the bus with fifty other riders stacked in like sardines. I was sitting next to the person who said “Follow me,” but he said nothing. It took us about an hour to arrive at our destination. My Knight showed me the way to the shops and off we went in our separate directions. I said “Thank you,” and I was on my way. After my first day on the job I was ready to head home, but I had no idea how I arrived in Crystal City or how to get home. I was considering catching a taxi home. I was lost. I was standing on the train platform checking out the train schedules when I heard in the background “Are you still lost?” I turned around and my Knight was arriving on the platform to take the train back home. I said “Yes.” He said “FOLLOW ME.” Once on the train heading home we started talking. Since it was winter and I was working outdoors, I had worn a hat, gloves, and a scarf plus I carried a brief case and a purse in the morning. On the way home I took off my gloves and hat. My Knight realized I was not wearing a wedding ring. I also had the opportunity to notice if he was not wearing a wedding ring. We made a date to have lunch the next day. And the rest, as they say, is History. I realized later I could have walked out of my house to the corner of my street and to catch the bus I was looking for. It was the law of attraction. We have celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. We have five grown children and six grandchildren. Life has been wonderful.
