Care Homes vs Home Care

By: Stuart Bennett

There are slightly above 21,500 care homes in the UK only at the moment with more people being cared for in a full time care home or nursing home facility in comparison to in their own homes through domiciliary care.
New Labour has made it somewhat apperent it intends to vary the approach we in Britain are being cared for by improving the service and in the end the care citizens receive in their own homes, with ever mounting expenditure to exist in in a full time care home vs the smaller £12 per hour care at home fee the distinction in terms of economics is clear. However, price is only one attribute and eventually not the most important.
For this we must ask the query "if your dear old mother was left at home unaccompanied all day powerless to care for herself, lonely and eventually a danger to herself" would you feel at ease leaving her there? Not merely this but research shows that regular communication among others in a lively surroundings often stimulates and prolonges a persons life a great deal more than being unaccompanied and normally hazardous at home.
Is this New Labours way of cutting corners financially, or do they really feel it is best for aged citizens who are not capable to care for themselves once a carer has visited?
In due course, we must offer each side a fair examination. If someone is able bodied enough to care for themselves in conditions of the common tasks per day but now need a little care a few times a week then home care is for them, on the other hand we must review health and safety before finances are even considered, finance should not be a decision when a persons own security is at risk, new labour need to step in and bring their cheque book.
