Canvas Tennis Shoes Keep You at The Peak of Your Game

By: Tom Nesbitts

A decent pair of tennis shoes is a totally essential part of any tennis player’s locker. With so much strain and strain being exerted on a tennis player’s feet during the course of a game, it is very important that the feet are protected by the very best tennis shoes.

The sole of the shoe is clearly extremely important since this is where the whole grip is generated that enables players to maneuver so well. Those lightning fast changes in direction; instant quickening from a standstill position; fast braking when running into the net or the court boundary; the leaps, the turns, the service action etc. With ill-fitting or poor performing shoes, all of these actions can be impaired, and in the worst-case scenario, players can feel pain and maybe even suffer injuries.

When a player is in the middle of a game, he/she needs to concentrate 100% on the game itself and their own performance. Any thoughts or concerns about grip, or pain and discomfort are completely off-putting. Games can without doubt be lost this way, only due to lack of complete concentration.

But it’s not just the sole of the foot that a player will be concerned about. The whole of the foot needs to be properly protected and supported, in particular, the top of the foot. The whole foot has to be able to breathe. Air flow within the shoe is vital. Without it, the foot is likely to begin to sweat. Sweat can lead to socks and shoes becoming damp, and that in itself can cause chafing and soreness.

All good tennis shoes include small eyelets in the side of the shoe just over the sole. This is excellent aeration for facilitating the stream of air both in and out. But the top of the shoe (generally referred to as the upper) is an important issue in this airing issue too.

A lot of today’s tennis shoes are manufactured with synthetic uppers. The reason for this is that synthetics are excellent for keeping rain or dampness out, and they are lightweight too. But, the issue with synthetics is just that – they are synthetic; they are not natural. Different people have different reactions to various materials, and the truth of the matter is that some synthetics can cause the feet to sweat, and as they are made with certain chemicals, these can in certain cases cause allergies and other reactions.

Thus, one of the finest materials for use in creating tennis shoe uppers is canvas. Canvas is one of the original materials that the earlier tennis shoes were made from, and the excellent thing about this material is (a) it is a totally 100% natural material, and (b), it is a material that breathes naturally and for that reason allows your foot to breathe too. The other excellent thing about canvas is that it is extremely tough, so this allows tremendous support for your feet, however it also means that your shoes will be fairly long-lasting. In actual fact, the soles and the grip will deteriorate long before your canvas uppers will.

A reflection of the success and appropriateness of canvas uppers is that the top tennis shoe manufacturers all offer canvas tennis shoe options. For those fashion conscious players, retro tennis shoes (in canvas, of course) are also very much the rage.
