Brasstown Bald, take the time to get the full experience. As I sit here in a nice white country-style high back rocking chair, almost five thousand feet above sea level admiring the beauty from the highest peak located in the state of Georgia, I see folks rushing in and out I a hurry. To truly enjoy and take in this experience visitors must slow down, and take the whole experience in. Granted visiting Brasstown Bald is a great experience even on the fly, but you may want to take a minute and see what all is offered here, and how you can enjoy the experience of being here for a full day as opposed to a few quick hours. All the benefits are right before your eyes. The exhibits in the museum are extraordinary, filled with a wealth of excellent educational information about the history of the North Ga. Mountains, as well as a clear plan of what is being done everyday to preserve this wondrous beauty. Take the time at each exhibit to truly grasp and learn about all the beauty you are seeing from the observation deck. This is the most dynamic view you can get of the state of Georgia anywhere. Brasstown Bald also offers excellent picnic areas with a view. You can enjoy a picnic table with a grill down along the parking area, or bring some sandwiches up to the observation tower, and have a nice lunch just sitting in one of the rocking chairs overlooking the majestic North Georgia Mountains. There is also a nice hiking area available that runs from he parking area up through a well-shaded forest to the observation deck totaling a hike that is just a tad over a half mile. But be aware, this hike is steep, and the rangers tell me that with its incline it is equivalent to a three-mile hike. If you're not in the mood for a hike you can opt for taking the shuttle bus that runs throughout the day for a small fee. Bring some reading material with you. Brasstown bald is an excellent place to just sit for hours in the cool mountain breeze overlooking the aweome North Georgia mountains and catch up on your reading. So between visiting the museum, and really taking in each exhibit, to either cooking out, or having a picnic atop the observation deck, to sitting in a rocking chair catching up on some reading to taking a decent hike, there's no reason you should see visiting Brasstown Bald as a quick two-hour trip. If you will stop long enough to smell the roses, and take in all that this attraction has to offer, you and your family can easily spend an entire fun-filled day here.
