How many of us dread going to the gym? How many of us go anyway because “it’s the right thing to do?” How many of us would like to spend a little less time in the gym? For great ways on accomplishing this task, read on and check out www.healthydietmagazine.com. I suppose you may be wondering how it is possible to spend less time at the gym and still get the results you need, be they mental, physical, or both. If you plan your day and think before acting, you should be able to get it done. Your first act in your daily routine that can burn calories is the way you wake up your kids. Do they use an alarm clock or do you send one sibling to wake the rest? If so, go to each one’s room and wake him or her individually. Depending on the lay-out and size of your home, you may be climbing steps and taking around 200 extra steps in the process. Anther great way to burn some extra calories at the beginning of the day is to walk out to the driveway to pick up the paper. If your spouse usually does this, ask if you can do it instead. Another great driveway walking opportunity is placing the trashcan at the top of the driveway and then retrieving it at the end of the day. When you are ready to drop your kids off at school, think about communication you need to make with your children’s teachers. Rather than emailing or sending a note, park the car, get out, and deliver the message in person. If your children are middle school age or above, you may end up taking even more steps than an elementary school mom. Not only are the schools bigger, you’ll also have to work extra hard to make sure your children’s friends and acquaintances don’t see you together. If you’re a stay-at-home mom, the possibilities for sneaking in calorie-burning moves are abundant. Try hand-washing dishes rather than dishwashing them. Hanging up clothes to dry rather than tossing them in the dryer works shoulder muscles. Going for a walk with a friend rather than talking on the phone with her for half an hour has its obvious benefits. Walking to school to pick up young children rather than driving benefits you, your children, and the environment all at the same time. If you are a working mom, don’t fret! You are certainly far from being left out of the sneaky exercise opportunity. Such actions as parking in the farthest parking spot, taking the long way around the building to a meeting, packing your lunch and taking a quick walk at work before eating it, and going to a co-worker’s office to deliver a message rather than calling or emailing should give you ample opportunity to work off some extra calories during your work day. Granted, these simple activities can never replace the cardiovascular or muscular benefits of an hour-long gym session, but they can enhance the efforts you already make. Just think and plan ahead a little and see how far it takes you!
