Become a Volunteer Working Abroad in an Humanitarian Program

If you want to see the world as a student you can either ask your parents to foot the bill or you can fundraise your expenses and all donations are tax deductible this will allow you to head overseas as a volunteer. Volunteering for social work abroad not only looks good on your resume but also lets you lend a helping hand to people in distant nations in Africa, Asia or South America. Some nonprofit organizations are doing good work related to health and teaching in far flung third world nations. The Amazon preservation activities call to the more adventurous souls while nursing seniors and teaching orphans comes more naturally to others.

As a volunteer you will essentially be an unpaid helper who is involved in a project of social welfare. There are volunteers for all kinds of causes. The cause can be political, environment related, social improvement related, medical aid related, or even some mundane cause like getting the consensus of the building occupants on what color to paint the corridors of the building. The kind of volunteering work we are looking at is more of the conservation, social work, or health improvement related. There are different projects available for you to pick and choose from.

Volunteer work with orphans has resulted in many orphanages sending forth orphans to schools and colleges. An achievement that they could not have managed without the aid of volunteers from abroad. If building the world’s future generations into a stronger force does not interest you, maybe building homes for the homeless has better appeal for you. There are many such projects where you volunteering to help with the construction of a simple wooden hut will give the homeless a chance to live in their first solid home.

Even if all the “do some good in the world” activities do not appeal to you maybe traveling will. There are a number of countries where you can volunteer. These include Peru (Cusco), Chile (La Serena), Ecuador (Quito), Honduras (La Ceiba), Costa Rica, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Cameroon, Morocco, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, and China. There is a choice of cities that you can head out to as well. The best part is that after traveling to these exotic locations you do not have to run home like a tourist does after a week or two. You get to stay there and actually see the way of life in the city or village that you are putting up in. It is bound to be an enriching experience for any one.

From conservation of Sea Turtles to teaching kids, nursing the seniors to building homes, there is all kinds of productive social work waiting for you should you be interested in volunteering for it. Perhaps the greatest reward of volunteering will be the fact that you know that you did at least one act in your life that improved the world that we are living in. Superior morals are the mainstay of the youth and if you can act on those ideals by volunteering for a note worthy cause you will be rewarded by the rise in your own self esteem.
