Auburn Tigers Tickets – Father and son make great coaching team

By: Gen Wright

There will be plenty of talking going on at Loco's Grill when head coach Jeff Lebo has a sit down with fans and takes live questions from the audience and callers. Baseball head coach John Pawlowski will also be present. Regarded by many as an outstanding basketball coach, Lebo began building his coaching tenure with the Tigers back in 2004. This season, Lebo has lead the Tigers to many victories both at home and away. With just a few games left in the season, it will be interesting to see how close to victory the Tigers can get again this season.

Games left to be played are against Arkansas on February 11, Mississippi State on February 14, Georgia on February 18, LSU on February 21, Mississippi on February 25, Mississippi State on February 28, Alabama on March 3 and LSU on March 7. After that, the SEC Championship will be held on March 12 and the NCAA Championship will take place on March 17.

Growling on the court this season are senior Korvotney Barber (1) from Manchester Georgia, junior Lucas Hargrove (4) from Pontiac South Carolina, junior Larry Williams (10) from Birmingham Alabama, freshman Josh Wallace (11) from Pensacola Florida, junior Dewayne Reed (12) from Houston Texas, senior Drew Smith (14) from Trussville Alabama, sophomore Tony Neysmith (15) from Norcross Georgia, freshman Frankie Sullivan (2) from Uniontown Alabama, senior Rasheem Barrett (21) from Atlanta Georgia, senior Quantez Robertson (23) from Cincinnati Ohio, junior Tay Waller (24) from Manchester Georgia, freshman Jake Drum (25) from Hoover Alabama, junior Brendon Knox (3) from Georgetown South Carolina, sophomore Brandon McGee (32) from Chicago Illinois, junior Johnnie Lett (34) from Mobile Alabama and junior Francis Aihe (42) from Winter Park Florida.

The Tigers gear up for home games in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. For the past 33 years, the six-million dollar building has been the location of many winning games for the Tigers. In 1997, a ten-million dollar renovation project was begun to add a new playing floor, new sideline seating, a new scoreboard and to build coaches' offices. There have been more than two million fans to attend games at the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. At first the seating was reduced from 12,500 to 10,108 but was subsequently increased back up to 10,500 in 1998. The largest crowds tallied to 173,249 in the 2000-2001 season.

In addition to Lebo handling his business on and off the court, the coaching team includes assistant head coach John Cooper, assistant coach Tim Craft, senior assistant to the head coach Dave Lebo, video coordinator Randall Malone, director of basketball operations Brandon Johnson, assistant coach Bryan Bartley, graduate assistant/manager Trey Strickland and graduate assistant/manager Garret Thorington. And yes, Dave Lebo is father to head coach Jeff Lebo.

The elder Lebo has been in the basketball arena for 42 years and is commencing his 11th year working with son Jeff. "Coach Dave", as he is affectionately referred to, will be commencing his fifth season with the Tigers and brings a wealth of experience to the team.
