The two French travelers were fortunate enough for the Swiss couple who were in the car agreed to give them a ride to Kabul. A long while later, another bus finally came rumbling along and I and the remaining Afghan passengers caught it. The Frenchwoman's friend visited me in my hotel the next day just to thank me. The French Embassy in Kabul immediately led the Swiss and her to a hospital in Kabul where her friend is required to undergo an immediate appendectomy. The close call chastened the companion but she was fine. Officials are capable of visiting victims in a foreign hospital, may transport victims to a better facility, and may contact the victim's relatives or friends.
