Asbestos Lawsuits: The Lonely Option

By: Karl Karl

The asbestos lawsuits and mesothelioma cases still abound since the 1960’s when the war between the asbestos industry and mesothelioma victims started. It is one of the most legendary cases in many courtroom dramas. Even though the use of asbestos had been banned in late eighties, the asbestos industry still prevailed. Many asbestos manufacturing companies still exist and continue to post health risk to its workers and other people exposed to asbestos particles. This is the reason why the war has not ended yet. More battles will be fought in the name of many defendants—the manufacturers and employers and the complainants --- the mesothelioma victims. It is the safe to say that the asbestos lawsuits, because of the continuing operations of asbestos manufacturers, are the only and lonely option. No person in his or her right mind would want to have the traitor disease mesothelioma just to get a substantial amount of money from asbestos manufacturers or employers.
Mesothelioma is cancer of the mesothelium, the protective linings of the lungs, abdomen and sacs of the heart. The growth period of the mesothelioma cancer cells takes up to 40 years which is slowly but surely ravaging every cell lining of the lungs, stomach and heart. The effect is devastating because the symptoms don’t manifest itself right away therefore early diagnosis is impossible. The cancer results after inhaling excessive amounts of tiny asbestos debris. More often than not, employees of asbestos companies are ones hit by this vicious disease. But the asbestos particles also cling to hair and clothes and can be inhaled by anybody like family members. Asbestos have very poisonous tiny particles that enter the body and produces cancer cells in the vital organs’ thin protective linings.
This fact has been contested between many lawyers from both sides in court rooms for decades and the many battles are still being waged for the sake of the victims. Asbestos lawsuits are the best to help a victim in this situation to get financial proceeds from the asbestos company. The proceeds will support the cancer victim for medical expenses and cancer treatments and sometimes, surgical operations.
The asbestos industry believes that asbestos is still needed for many things for the use of mankind like building materials, electric insulation, etc. It is like saying in a subtle kind of way that a few must be sacrificed for the benefit of many… or, for the sake of bigger profits and thriving economies. The asbestos industry is still a huge industry and a lot of people still ask why. Asking a question about the legality of the industry can only be heard inside the court room. Concerns about mesothelioma can only be taken seriously inside the court room as well. Asbestos lawsuits really are the only and lonely option for cases like these. Asbestos lawsuits have served as the way so that the needs and concerns of many mesothelioma victims can be addressed at the soonest time possible. It is a lonely option but does gives results.
