1. Do know your audience. Don't start writing your articles unless you have a solid idea about the people who'll read them. Reach out to your target audience and get to know the things that they consider important in their lives, the information that they're looking for when they go online, and the problems that they're currently facing. Then, get to know their age, occupation, level of comprehension, etc. You'll be able to offer them what they are looking for if you know their needs and demands. 2. Don't plagiarize. This is the biggest no-no in online article writing. Copying other's work and publishing them under your name will not do you any good. You see, Google have very effective ways of knowing if your articles are not original. Search engines will reject your website due to content duplication. You don't want that to happen, do you? 3. Do use intriguing titles. Keep in mind that your articles will show up along with other articles on search engine listing. If you want online users to choose your's, you better use captivating titles that are way better compare to your competitors'. Learn the art of creating intriguing, captivating, and emotionally-charged titles to boost your open rate. 4. Don't publish your articles without proofreading them. It's very easy to commit mistakes when writing your articles. That is why, it's highly recommended that you review and proofread them before you make them available in the online arena. Grammar and spell checkers will not do the trick. You will need to read your articles out loud over and over again to make sure that they are perfect. 5. Do offer informative, useful content. The only reason why people read articles is because they would like to be informed. So, you better make sure that your articles contain useful, refreshing information. Your readers must get in-depth information about the things that they find interesting and they must be able to find solutions to their problems. 6. Don't make it too lengthy. You're not writing a novel and you're not writing for your English class. You're writing for people who are thirsty for information and who have limited attention span. To serve them well, make sure that you make your articles really short and very tight. 7. Do make it sound more personal. Don't make your articles sound boring by sounding too formal. Make them enjoyable to read by using conversational tone. Its okay if they sound a bit laid back, in fact, this will be appreciated by your audience. Go ahead and inject humor whenever you see fit. Engage your readers by telling them great stories and by asking them questions from time to time. 8. Don't be a keyword abuser. Although sprinkling keywords on your articles will make them search engine-friendly, using too much of these is not good. First, this will surely annoy your readers as they hate content that sound redundant. Second, search engines are now very strict with keyword abuse. They might reject your articles if the keyword density exceeds 2% of your article word count. 9. Do share your secrets and insider tips. This is one way to make your articles instantly popular in the online arena. Make them more informative and more valuable to the eyes of your readers by loading them with useful, in-depth, and complete information.
