By: Sandra M. Morris

What is your experience with teas? Are you new to tea? Have you ever tasted tea that did not come from a tea bag or out of a bottle? If the answer to the last question is no then you are about to learn a new language and along the way you might even improve your health too.

Let's get started! Tea has been around for at least several thousand years and today more tea is consumed around the world than any other beverage. That caught you attention, huh? Maybe it is time for you to learn what everyone else seems to know... tea is good for you and better than that tea tastes good!

If you are new to tea then you must first understand that the good teas do not come in a bag nor out of a bottle. Most of the gourmet or special teas are loose and stored in air tight containers. Why bother with these loose leaf teas when a tea bag is much simpler and more convenient? In one word - quality. The loose teas are a much higher quality that their relative the tea bag and that higher quality leads to much better taste which is probably the main reason people who know choose loose leaf teas.

For a beginning tea drinker there is a lot to learn from the types of teas to the blends of teas with other ingredients. A good starting point for a beginner would be one of the teas that have been blended with fruits. Some fruits like blueberries actually add extra vitamins to the tea. Another reason for the fruit blend would be the smell. Often the very aroma and pleasant smell of flowers tickles your nose as you drink. Choose blends with jasmine, roses or even lavender to really improve the experience of drinking tea.

If you have regularly drank bagged teas then you might want to choose a loose leaf black to to begin. Great choices would be Earl Grey or English Breakfast Tea.

Sometimes the full flavor of a black tea can be overpowering so if you do not have a lot of experience with bagged teas then the next selection will do nicely. The choices would be white teas who are well known for their mild manner, pleasant light coloring and somewhat sweet taste. A Pearl White Tea or even a White Chai Tea will do the trick.

Keep in mind, grasshopper, that teas help with weight loss and makes a great replacement to coffee. And caffeine is even lower too!

Practice makes a perfect cup of tea. You will need to sample several types of either black or white tea of even the blended flavors to find the best one for you. Do not rush this process, drink the tea for a couple sittings to get the full benefits.

When you are comfortable with drinking your special teas on a regular basis we will progress to the next step in your journey to wisedom. Preparing.
