Several people have very strong opinions regarding this matter. They don’t want the kitten to sleep anywhere but in its own bed – perhaps a basket that’s been bought especially for it. They certainly don’t want kitty finding its way into bedrooms or sleeping on sofas/armchairs.Many cat owners do not segregate the kitten but rather allow it to choose where it wants to sleep.There are no wrongs or rights the only right decision is what is right for you and your family.Prior to introducing your kitten its new environment try to ensure that all the decisons and preparations have been made. Please ensure you give suffcient thought into where you wish your kitten to sleep either in its own bed, in the kitchen or your bedroom or even another area of the house. You are bringing into your home a baby cat, a kitty who has just that day been taken from its mother. It may well be happy to play and be fussed over when people are around, but once everyone goes to bed, kitty’s going to feel very much alone and scared.For added security use the blanket that his mother had been using to sleep on in his basket. It will still contain her scent and provide comfort. Unless you want to give the kitten the idea that it’s ok for it to sleep on your bed, you shouldn’t bring it to bed even on the first few nights when it’s mewing for its momma.It will be a difficult habit to break once he gets into the routine of sleeping beside you.You may need to consider camping out next to his bed for a few evenings until he is more familiar with his new surroundings. Should you decide instead that kitty is welcome to sleep in whichever bed he prefers, then you need to take a few safety precautions to ensure that he isn’t suffocated or squished during the night.Try and arrange rolled up towels or blankets around him to act as a buffer, failing that if he has a basket see if there is a place on the bed where he can sit without being kicked off! Be prepared to find your kitten in another area than where you believe he is going to sleep!Cats are headstrong animals and despite your best efforts will frequently do their own thing with little regard for how it fits into your plans. Try to get your kitten excited about where he is permitted to sleep if possible try and find an area where you will both be happy with!
