Adwords Mistakes Than You Can’t Afford To Make

By: Alfredo Trabulsi

Pay per Click marketing using Google Adwords can be one the easiest ways to get quality traffic to your site, be it any topic, theme or market. Google Adwords promises big revenue pay outs and it can deliver them — if you know know to optimize your accounts. Just one or two ill-formed decisions could cost you your entire advertising budget with no conversions to show for it. PPC marketing isn’t as easy as it looks; it takes time and effort to perfect it. You need to do thorough testing and work to optimize your campaign in a way to make it profitable. Once you strike a profitable campaign, you have to keep an eye on it, keep testing and tweaking it to maintain it. It needs constant attention to get real benefits. With some practice and proper advice, it won’t be like before you become a PPC expert with the marketing prowess and know ho to make huge strides in site traffic. The rest of this article will point out three Adword faux pas you should avoid if you want to succeed.

1) Failing To Fully Research Your Market

The great thing about PPC marketing is that a vendor has no doubt whatsoever exactly where his advertising budget is being spent. Split testing is a technique you can use with Google Adwords to fine tine your marketing efforts to make them more effective. However, if you do not take advantage of this testing feature, you are losing money and leaving money just lying around. With Adwords, you can split test without much effort, since you can rotate ads against one another and that allows you to see which ad is performing best. Running only one ad would make it very difficult to figure out it’s performance. That is why when you split test 2 ads against each other, you’re able to weed out the one with the worst performance and keep the one with the higher performance, which in turn improves your click-through and conversion rates.

2) Negative Keywords should Not be Neglected

Google Content Network is a place where other websites display Google ads. It is not part of Google or its partners. It is important to understand that there is no way to know if these sites will be targeted towards your topic. Plus, they could be AdSense based, meaning the information on them is either not relevant or can be strong competition for you products. How does this affect your campaign? Simply put, it is a major risk to take. You may not get a good return on your investment, even if you put a lot of money into it. Also, these ads aren’t easy to track. So keep in mind that when you’re starting your Adwords campaign, you need to turn of the “content network” and keep your focus solely on Google and its partners. It is true that the content network has advantages, but it is not the place to start new campaigns.

3. Not Staying Focused On Your Landing Page

{Unrealistic expectations are almost always the cause of the number one mistake made by people new to Adwords. They get excited about their potential earnings and start counting money they’ve not yet made. They simply look at the numbers in their market, realize it has a lot of potential, and believe they will be able to have 10,000 visitors in the first month, resulting in tons of profits. Unfortunately, 10,000 visitors will not translate to 10,000 conversions, especially for an untested ad. For the profit to exist the traffic needs to convert. The only way to accomplish this is to start off with a small amount of traffic, and then grow as the number of conversions grow. This is the only way to ramp up your profits to the maximum with Adwords. |You need to make your landing page match your ad. You campaign will not be successful if you ad does not go with your landing page. A very common mistake made by Internet marketers is failing to make their landing page headline match the content of their ad. By making the two match, any potential customers can know they are where they want to be when they click through to your landing page. In effect, you will be able to increase your conversion rate. |You should also focus on testing and optimizing your campaigns so you know which keywords are doing the job and which aren’t. If you just go ahead and place hundreds of keywords in one single ad group, the popular ones will quickly be bombarded with clicks, while the ones that are less popular won’t get many clicks. This will cause problems in the long term since you won’t know which keywords earned you the most clicks. Therefore, you should only begin with 10-15 keywords with each ad group, that way you will easily be able to analyze their performance. This will help you create a highly targeted campaign that’s getting results due to the best converting keywords. |Most beginning marketers believe they should set their daily budget low when they are starting out, giving them the chance to see if their campaign is working and to make any necessary changes. However, they keep forgetting that when you set your daily budget too low, your ads won’t show much, which means you won’t be able to achieve the number of clicks you want to test out your advertising campaign. If you can’t get the right amount of information to test the waters, you should try to allow for more money in your daily budget. Once you get a better understanding of the operation of the market and your place in it, you can again lower the budget. |When someone clicks on your ad, they have a definite reason for doing so. There is something that they need to have, and the advertisement said the right things to make them think they could find it on your site. But what happens after they click through to your site? If the prospect finds himself on your homepage, he may not know where to go next for the actual product. The individual would be confused about the association between your home page and the advertisement he or she clicked on. Therefore, when you are managing a campaign with Google Adwords, be sure that you have a landing page for that specific ad. This page should have a headline that is related to your ad, and it should have relevant, informative content. You can even test out various landing pages to find out the one that performs the best. Taking the time to visit these pages will increase your comprehension of how to run a successful ad campaign and become profitable with your online busin
