Taking your game to the next level and becoming an advanced Texas Holdem poker player doesn't have to be hard. Most of the game is played pre flop so it makes sense to increase your ability here first. You don't need to worry about making decisions on the river if you can't even get past the flop.

5 Simple Pre Flop Tips For Advanced Texas Holdem Players

- The first pre flop tip is to avoid playing out of the blinds unless you have really really good cards. Playing from the blinds is difficult because you have to make your move before anyone else. You have no information to work with whereas your opponents in later positions do.

You can play worse cards from the big blind only if you can isolate the small blind and play heads up against him. This won't happen often but if everyone folds around and the SB limps in you can take him on.

- When you are in late positions, like just before or on the button, you should steal blinds whenever possible. You can do this when everyone calls/folds around to you. Just bet a big amount and most often you will take the pot then and there.

- It's advantageous to force terrible pot odds on the other players pre flop. This will make it not worth their while to call or continue playing. Depending on your stack size and the other players stack sizes will depict if you can do this or not.

- You should always be reading your opponents types and styles pre flop. This tips the game into your favour because you can guess what cards they have, if they will bet or not and how much etc. Pay attention so you know if you are up against a cannon or a calling station.

- Pay attention to the previous hands a player actually plays. What did they bet when they have pocket kings? Does this player check raise often? Do they often call or come over the top? Is any player a blind defender? All this info will help in your decision what to do.
