A little over a hundred years ago, the vast majority of Americans were SELF employed. At one time companies were loyal to their employees and did the right thing regarding pensions, retirement funds, etc. Today the vast majority of people are dependant on employers for their financial security. Unfortunately businesses are looking to cut costs at every turn and at every opportunity. Millions of jobs have been lost in America and there is no end in sight. The sad thing is I know of plenty of other single income families that have a 'head in the sand' belief that their job is secure. I promise you they are anything but. Just recently, I learned about a woman who worked like a dog for decades for a company that owned a couple hundred fast food restaurants. This lady never called in sick once her entire career despite the long shifts at all kinds of crazy hours. She worked her way up and became a successful manager running her assigned restaurants like a champ and was rated excellent in her performance reviews for years & years. She assumed she had financial security Yep, you guessed it she was fired after all that time. Her 'retirement package'? Not even a taco I'm serious if you aren't working on a financial 'Plan B' in case you 'Plan A' falls flat you are putting yourself and your entire family in VERY serious risk. Having a part time work from home business would have done wonders for a person like the woman mentioned above. The good news. There are lots of great options for developing a side home based business and the benefits to owning even a part time business will astound you! First are the very generous tax savings. I'm not a tax professional but I do know that if you started a home based business today you could change you tax withholding status at your job tomorrow. For some people that would add up to several hundreds of dollars extra in take home pay every month! That's just the beginning. You could use that money to fund your work from home business start-up. You could also enjoy more tax savings by employing your children in various simple duties like making copies etc. By engaging your entire family in the endeavor you'll be sharing quality time while teaching them valuable life-long lessons in responsibility, finances, work ethic, etc. Financial security can only truly be developed by owning your own business. Even if it's done part time you'll be amazed at how quickly you can generate an extra income that matches your current income and eventually replaces it! As a human being hopefully you've recognized that the more you develop as a person the higher your quality of life. That translates into growing as a person and learning to be a successful entrepreneur is perhaps the best personal development program ever invented. Perhaps most important of all: Don't rob from your self. My thinking is since we have only one life that we can be sure of why not live it to the fullest? Why allow life to pass you by when with the same or less effort, time, and resources you can enjoy a far greater quality of life with financial security for you and your family?
