It is generally acknowledged that teenage drivers are at high risk of causing a motor vehicle accident. Nearly every day one can find reports of still more accidents involving teenage drivers. Many accidents have several teenagers in a car. Many accidents have several victims. Many accidents involve injured or killed pedestrians. In this article we analyze four reported accidents. One case involves major injuries. The additional 3 incidents involve a fatality. In this report a motor vehicle accident was described in which the driver was a sixteen year old who has a junior license which allowed the teenager to drive up to 9:00 pm. The incident, however, occurred on a weekday after 9:00 p.m. The reason why is unclear but somehow the driver lost control of the car. As a result the car hit another vehicle and then struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, was waiting at a bust stop when the accident happened, died from his injuries. The victim was a 65 year old man. The driver suffered minor injuries. He was, however, arrested and charged with speeding, manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide. In this report the driver of the motor vehicle was a drunk 18 year old male. The motor vehicle accident occurred before dawn on a Sunday. Weekend evenings pose the biggest risk for the occurrence of accidents involving drunk drivers. Based on the report the victim in this situation was struck while crossing a road. He was forty four years old. As a result of the accident he suffered serious head injuries. The driver was arrested. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence. According to this report the driver was an 18 year old male. The motor vehicle accident happened in the morning hours on a Sunday. The accident happened in a residential area. The accident took place when the teenaged driver lost control of his vehicle. The car spun violently before it flipped over, hit the victim and slammed against a large tree in front of the house. The victim had just gotten out of his car to pick up a pamphlet from the front yard on a home which had a For Sale sign when he was struck by an out of control car. The man died from his injuries. He was 67 years old. This motor vehicle accident involved a 19 year-old female driver also driving in a residential neighborhood. The young driver left the scene of the accident after she struck a woman who was gardening in a flower bed in front of her own house. The teenage driver struck the woman so hard that she threw her virtually 150 feet. The female victim ended up slamming against a truck that was parked in the driveway of her house. The driver did not stop. The driver was arrested close by around half an hour later as she was allegedly going back to the scene to take responsibility for the accident. Whenever I read a report of a new motor vehicle accident accident involving a teen driver my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Lives are destroyed in them. Victims can die or suffer significant injuries. Some are left with permanent disabilities. The families of the victims also suffer a great loss. Even the teenage driver's life is changed forever. Sometimes they suffer the remainder of their lives from from their guilt. Sometimes they lose their freedom. Still, whether it is from speeding or from drunk driving these accidents continue to happen.
