A Shooting In London

By: Roberto Garabell

So in this age of global terror and the rise in gun crime in London, you would be forgiven for believing that this would be about such subject matter. But no, I'm not refering to the kind of shooting you may thinking about...

Shoot Experience are an energetic and original photography events company who, believe it or not, specialise in photographic treasure hunts! One of there bigger events is based in the Tate Modern gallery in London. It is used as a corporate team building exercise (as well as for the general public) albeit a long and creatively demanding one from what it seems.

People get there in the morning and are placed into groups, each team being issued a camera. They are then given 10 clues which they follow throughout the city with the task of creating their own answers through the visual medium of, yes, you guessed it, camera pictuers. They’re also given a deadline to return that evening where the pictures are judged and prizes are given out for the best and most entertaining pictures. Participants can relax back at the Tate with a drink whilst the winners are picked. They even get to have their work showcased at an exhibition at the Tate!

The fun filled event is a winner with corporate companies and the general public, and one where according to Shoot Experience themselves is "breaking boundaries, improving communication and providing an accessible and artistic platform for discussion and interaction". And who are we to argue with their track record of excellent revues in The Metro, The London Paper, London Lite, The Times, Timeout, Contact, Reach as well as a host of other online review sites.

The company is the brain child of South African born Brett Jefferson Stott who created the company in 2006. Brett is a photographer, musician, web designer and entrepreneurial extroadinaire who in the past has had his music featured on UK National radio as well as his photos in Time Out and the SA Times amongst other well known magazines. Through his passion for photography he has created the Shoot experience to ‘Encourage people to rediscover their everyday environment and lives through photography’.

The Shoot projects are not just exclusively at the Tate Modern and are held all around London, other parts of the UK. The company have recently gone global too holding events in Toronto, Delhi and Ouaga.
