A Necessary Investment: Home Security Cameras

By: Shane Nicholson

Millions of Americans - today - experience living in a beautiful home. But many of these same Americans, who have paid thousands of dollars to purchase their homes, refuse to spend a little more money to protect them. That just doesn't seem like a very reasonable - or wise - decision. Yet it is possible to protect our homes from intruders, smoke and fire damage and more.

What are your options when it comes to buying a home security system? Well, for starters you can choose a video surveillance security system. These make use of cameras directly connected to a display monitor. With this type of system, you can monitor every critical area of your home, including bedrooms, garage area and entranceways.

Want another option? How about a wireless security camera system? These cameras can be purchased and used either outdoors or indoors. And with the wireless type, you won't have to waste time and money getting cables installed on your property. These systems function wirelessly much the same way a cordless telephone might - with the camera transmitting a signal and the base unit receiving it.

Still another option is the more high-tech infrared security camera. Unlike many animals, humans cannot see in the infrared range - but special purpose cameras have been designed to capture images using light of this type.

What that means is that infrared security cameras can be used in places where we would say are in 'total darkness.' So, if you have a dark basement or attic you want monitored, then infrared security cameras are a good way to go.

Many homeowners, if not most, are always looking to save some money. If that's you, then take heart, because you can find cheap home security cameras for under $40 dollars. In fact I have seen complete systems advertised for under $100 dollars! And if money is REALLY tight, you can save yourself most of the expense by purchasing fake or dummy security cameras - that do not actually work, but nevertheless look just like the real thing.

In our brave new world, it is now possible to hook up a computer to one or more security cameras. Using a media player or special-purpose browser, the images captured and transmitted can now be viewed directly on your computer screen. So while you are off playing the slots in Las Vegas, you can keep an eye on your home in Pittsburgh!

As you can see, you have a lot of options when it comes to buying a good security camera - so why would you NOT take advantage of this abundance and give yourself some peace-of-mind? I can't think of any reason, honestly. So what are you waiting for?
