A Few Golf Questions Answered With These Tips

By: David Blackburn

You usually find that you pick up the game more rapidly and make greater strides forward with your game in the beginning. This is why it is essential to start correctly as any bad habits you may have were probably ingrained when taking up golf. Fortunately we can right these mistakes by getting professional training with plenty of practice and hard work. These days qualified professional advice can be found from your resident golf pro to online websites where you will obtain all the answers you want. There are 7 tips to better golf provided here.

1. It is very important your alignment is as it should be. Correct alignment is a must if you want to consistently hit the golf ball towards your intended target. Always aim the club-face to start with before taking your stance, then set yourself up parallel to the club-face to target line. A good idea is to imagine yourself standing on a railway line with the opposite side of the track pointing to the target.

2. Trying to avoid trouble from the tee is always a good strategic ploy. Use the teeing area to your advantage by teeing up the ball on the same side as the trouble and then you can aim away from it. By doing this you will not have to take as many penalty drops or have to reload from the tee for being out of bounds, which will help keep your score as low as possible.

3. Maintain a steady head position throughout the golf swing. Your golf will develop more rapidly by doing this and will help with more consistent shotmaking. Bear in mind I said keep your head still and not DOWN. Keeping your head down has ruined many a good swing. The correct position for your head is achieved by lifting your chin so the back of your neck runs in a straight line down your spine, as this will make room for your shoulders to turn correctly and give you a better posture and balance.

4. Reading the green properly is a valuable asset to have. Take time to improve your green reading skills as this will improve your putting no end. As well as the natural contours of a golf green you will also discover that a golf ball will generally roll away from a hill and towards a water source. Make a point to remember this when approaching a green. Once you have decided on the amount of break don't second-guess yourself over the ball. Be self-assured and commit yourself to the line you have chosen.

5. The grain of the green is another important aspect to consider too as it will effect the roll of the ball. As you stand behind the ball if the grass looks shiny then the grain is running away from you and if it is dull then the grain of the grass is facing you. Putts with the grain will go more rapidly and travel further. And clearly against the grain this will have the opposite effect making the putt slower.

6. A lot of the new soft spikes fitted in golf shoes get clogged up rapidly with grass, so make sure you scrape this away. This is one small part of your golf game that most people forget, but it is very important to maintain your balance and not lose your footing during the golf swing, and even when walking on the golf course.

7. Check your golf club grips frequently as they can become worn and dirty through use. You should get a bucket or basin of warm water, after that add some washing up liquid and give your golf grips a good scrubbing to get rid of the grime. Then use an old towel to dry them. I am certain you will be astounded in the change this makes to the grip and how much better they feel, giving you a lot more control when swinging the club. Your only relationship to the golf club is through your hands so it is vital your golf grips are in good condition. It should go without saying that if this does not help rejuvenate the grips then you must replace them as soon as possible.

I am confident that anyone adopting these tips will help their golf game. I look forward to speaking again soon. Have a great time on the Links.
