70s Fancy Dress - The Disco 70s

By: escapeto theseventies

The Disco time was definitely a time when people who thought they were bold and those that just knew they were beautiful hit the disco scene. While the disco dance 70's garments made their way into the world of fashion, the too hot to trot people that wore them experimented with every color possible. The time of drab boring colours and high-neck grandmama wearing clothes were now a thing of the past.

A trademark of this disco dance 70's clothes era was its color and the peasant tops, not forgetting about that 4-inch high-heeled boot platform that sent shockwaves from Manhattan to California. As disco became more popular, so did the width of the jeans, the amount of colours in one garment, and the height of the heel on a platform boot.

You needed to be daring and prepared to take risks, like the designers and the retro sexy supporters they designed clothes for. One mistake that we make is to think that men were not as much apart of this dance 70's garments time as we believe they were. Most men would like for the world to forget, but in this style driven society that is very unlikely. Men wore suits that were first introduced in the film saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta. In the flick Travolta wore a white leisure suit that ridiculed the time it came out in.

The white belts and the white shoes were worn with a polyester leisure suit was also a look made famous by John Travolta in Sat. Night Fever. That look was the height of what the 70's disco era was all about. The white on white was a defining look that galvanized many designers and men alike to step up. Ornamenting each shirt and pant with wild prints became the fashion norm rather than a fashion faux pas as it'd be today. The disco 70's clothes became so outstanding in the 70's it was labeled disco wear.

There was no rejecting those reflecting fabrics that nearly blinded you under those disco lights. There had been a space age fantasy look that everybody wanted. The pants flared out at the bottom and the clothes were tight enough to see the beat of a person's heart right through their garments. The interesting though was the way in which the garments complemented the music. It was dazzling to hear a fast, up-beat song and see all of the fast, up-beat speed outfits moving and glistening under those strobe lights exactly like the music that played in everyone's ears.

till this very day it's not that tough to imitate some of the fashions that were popular in the 70's. You might go inside your awfully closet and likely find something to remind you about those times. One thing is for sure, you would doubtless get a few guffaws if you tried to wear some of those patterns and colors today. Word of recommendation, stay abreast of the times and stay current on your wardrobe.
