By: Michae l Molloy

While some people may find it fun to do Christmas shopping, others find it awfully stressful. Some may think it so stressful in fact, that they postpone it until the very end. Due to recession and economic problems over the past couple years; Christmas shopping has more complex and a financial burden for some people.

Here are some very effective ways to avoid stress during Christmas shopping:

* Buy your stuff as early as possible. While you may feel you're not going to be able to get the best sales discount, you will be astonished at how much money you may be able to save by shopping early. Ask your family members to either make their Christmas lists earlier on or pay attention to comments they make such as, "I really wish I had this or that..". When you hear remarks like this, write them down and keep a watch for when these objects are on sale.

* Pay attention to weekly sales. Something that will really surprise you is how many things you'd planned to buy for gifts are often found on sale weeks or months prior to Christmas. Although it may seem that you are only getting one or two gifts out of the way, you are slowly getting your shopping done and saving money at the same time. Many stores offer deals of "Buy one get second one free or 50% off". Such deals are a great way to buy two gifts and save money.

* Consider giving gift certificates. Gift buying appears to be getting more difficult every year, particularly with [children and teens. Gift certificates are greatly valued. Although it may appear that a gift certificate is too impersonal, it's a gift they'll love and isn't that your ultimate aim? Fluctuations in gas prices means that a gas card is a gift that anyone will love, but is notably appreciated by teen drivers that always seem to be low on cash and lower on gas! You can buy them a gift card to their preferred store or a cash card that can be used in any store. Giving these gift cards and certificates is a real easy way to complete your Christmas shopping and it's something you can do throughout the year instead of doing it all in one month.

* Send cash as Christmas gifts. Many people like the idea of opening an envelope with cash inside. Gift cards and gift certificates are a great idea but cash can be even better. Christmas shopping is a financial drain on most people and getting cash as a gift may be a great way to "replenish" some of the money they've spent. Cash is also the perfect option for children that are difficult to buy for. When they get their cash gift they know they can go to their favorite store and get what they really want.

* Use stores that still have layaway. Lay-by offers a great way to get a lot of your shopping done in one day and offers convenient payment plans affordable for most people. While you may be buying the items at full price, a lot of stores will adjust your balance if the items go on sale.

* Buy online. Shopping online is becoming more popular each year. Shopping online offers you the ease of buying from the comfort of your home alongwith good savings. With such a vast variety of online stores, you can easily find precisely what you're trying to find by using the search engines.

For example, if you're shopping for scented candles, type in "scented candles" and you'll get a list of many online stores selling scented candles. You can then go through each store until you find the best deal. Many online websites offer sale merchandise as well as free shipping. Shipping costs is generally the biggest downfall of online shopping, but by surfing around, you can look for the best shipping price.
