5 Ways To Hand Out Business Cards Effectively

By: Kate Manheaven

Many small and startup businesses struggle to promote themselves in the market. The high cost of some marketing tools often discourage them to market their business, and instead rely on word of mouth to get known out there. Although word of mouth marketing is a good way to get known, you must not depend solely on it when it comes to your marketing campaign. With advancement in technology and improvement in marketing strategies, there will surely be one tool that will fit your promotional need and your budget.

One thing is certain: there’s a special material out there that you can effectively use to market your business. Just let your imagination be your limit and find that one thing that will let you convey your marketing message to your target customers effectively and compellingly. If you are ready to embark on your own compelling marketing campaign, why not consider starting with business cards. Now these cards may seem simple and insignificant, but when designed right they can bring you profitable customers and take your business to unimaginable success.

It may seem easy to design and distribute a business card. Just pick a piece of paper, draw in your design, print it, and you are ready to distribute it to anyone you meet on the street. But contrary to popular belief, there are business card etiquettes on ways to distribute business cards. You can’t simply hand out your cards to just about anyone, anywhere. Follow these simple rules in distributing business cards and you are sure to leave your cards to people who are most likely to do business with you.

• Before you attend any business meeting, conference, or event, decide first your purpose for attending. Is it to gather new customers, to look for new innovative products, or to simply get new ideas? Once you have determined your purpose, you will know how to interact with the attendees should there be a need to leave your business cards before the event ends.

• Give your business cards to people you meet at restaurants, hotels, airport and other places. Just be sure that the person you are talking to is interested in your products or services before out your card. Don’t forget to ask for the person’s contact information as well to follow up.

• Never give out your card to everyone in the room. Talk to a few people first, communicate with them, and tell them about your work. Listen to what the other person is talking about and if you see a chance to work with him, take out your business card and give it to him. Ask for his business card as well for your contact reference.

• Hand out your business card printing to family members and friends. They can help you give out your cards to people they think might need your products or services.

• If you are the one conducting the meeting or event, you can set up a table in front or at the door where people can get your business cards. After the meeting, encourage the attendees to get your card at the table, or better yet distribute them around the room. You can also consider giving out your card before the event starts as a quick way to introduce yourself.
