5 Good Reasons to Buy a Glasshouse.

By: Mas Smith

Glasshouses have always been a pretty common feature in back gardens, but in recent years they have become a much more desirable item. But why is this? At one time it was thought that only older people enjoyed pottering around in the garden. Well, times have certainly changed. Far more of us are discovering the pleasures of growing our own crops and there are some very good reasons for this.

So get out in the back yard and start measuring up. This could be a great time to buy your own greenhouse! And here’s why -

1. An Increased Awareness of Chemicals.
It wasn’t so many years ago that we would chow down on our grub without giving it much thought at all. But these days it is a totally different matter.
Many of us are becoming increasingly concerned about the pesticides used on our vegetables and far more people are choosing to buy organic. But greenhouses are the best option of all; you will know for certain that no sprays have been used on any of your veg!

2. A Better Taste.
It is a well known fact that home-grown fruit and vegetables have a far superior taste to any store-bought ones. Anything will have a better flavor if you have grown it yourself, but it is especially noticeable with certain things. The three foods with the most dramatic improvement in flavor are probably tomatoes, carrots and potatoes. Yum yum!

3. The Sheer Enjoyment of it.
Not only is it healthier to grow your own produce, but it is also a great deal of fun! There is something truly magical about watching your plants come to fruition (excuse the pun). And sitting down to a plate of vegetables you have grown by your own fair hand is an immensely rewarding experience. Why not invite a few of your friends round to enjoy your bounty as well? Perhaps you can plan out your vegetable garden ready for Thanksgiving!

4. Helping Our Environment.
Why do we need to fly so many of our fruits and vegetables half-way around the world? Few of us used to give this much thought at all, but we are becoming far more aware of ‘food miles’. Do we really need to have certain fruits in our shops when they are not in season? The chances are that most of it will have very little in the way of flavor and its shelf life will be very short as well. It’s all pretty dumb if you think it through, isn’t it?
This is another big reason why so many people are getting greenhouses. When you grow everything yourself, you build up a far better understanding of nature. And the trip from your vegetable plot to your plate is a very short distance indeed!

5. Saving Money.
A few dollars worth of plants will give you an amazing amount of fruit and vegetables. You will certainly save plenty of money at your local store! When you grow your own produce it will have a dramatic effect on your weekly grocery bill!
