4 Facts That Newbie Designers Seem To Forget In Color Brochure Printing

By: Kate Manheaven

While color poster printing is a pretty straightforward job, I do notice that many newbie designers do still forget a lot of important facts in poster printing. It might be just the excitement of designing a color poster, or it might just be a lack of training in poster printing, but lot of designers are indeed forgetting some crucial facts that they definitely need. So if you are a newbie designer, you have come to the right place. In this article, I will remind you of the few facts that many designers like you forget sometimes in poster printing. Hopefully this little wakeup call can get you into the right path of poster printing once again.

1. The design is for the readers – This is the most common thing most newbie designers forget when it comes to designing their color posters. They forget that the design of the poster is for the readers or viewers of the posters and not themselves. They get too caught up in using the best techniques and the most exquisite designs that they can lose the reader altogether. The design becomes beautiful yes, but they do lose the readers and lose the whole point and message of the color poster. So do yourself a favour, and always keep in mind the readers and viewers of the color poster. Design for them. Design your color posters so that it connects to readers in a direct way, showing what they like and what they are interested in.

2. Images come in different resolutions – Another thing that many newbie designers forget when designing for poster printing is that images can come in different resolutions. In most cases where you design a multi-layered poster, you will get several images sometimes in different resolutions. If you do not adjust or scale your images well, some parts of your color posters will look fuzzy while the other parts will look clearer. This is the effect of combining different images in a design improperly.

That is why it is important for any color poster designer to be careful when it comes to integrating different images together. You have to always be precise with your scaling and conversions so that those different images can actually look like they belong together and not just pasted in.

3. The text needs polishing too – Newbie designers also typically forget to polish up and design their text. While the images, graphics, and other design elements do in fact merit a lot of attention, the text for color poster printing is important too. It not only provides the crucial details about the poster’s message, but the text also is an important design element that completes the theme of the custom poster. So make sure you do polish out your text designs. Add textures, font colors, additional font styles, shadows, strokes etc. to them, so that they can be as impressive as any part of the poster.

4. There is the need for bleeds in the layout – Some newbie designers also make the fatal error of forgetting that poster printing designs must have some printing bleeds or extra space in its dimensions for poster printing. These bleeds are needed for printing posters because it helps give that breathing room for discrepancies in cutting. So make sure that you remember to add printing bleeds to your color poster printing. Add around a half an inch to the length and width of the color poster to achieve this.

So those are the things that you must remember as a newbie designer for poster printing. Take note of this all and you’ll be printing color posters better and more competently.
