Unfortunately, those who are new to this type of tool can make mistakes that can cause their overall marketing campaign to come to a standstill and prevent them from being able to get the leverage they need. Targeting Keywords That Are Too Broad Let me explain: Keywords that are common, but too broad, will attract a lot of clicks which will only use up your money, but will not produce any sales. Targeting broad keywords takes you nowhere. Let’s take the keyword example – “hospital”. Generally, people using broad terms like “medical” or “hospital” during a web search are looking for information or fishing for ideas, and aren’t really all that interested in buying. So if a person searches using words like that, they are just curious about something. If you want results you need to specifically consider your product and derive your keywords from it’s most concise description. If you stick to common keywords, there’s no way you can find out if those people are interested in your offer or not, and most of the time, they are not. The keyword “hospital,” to use our former example, produces 78,400,000 results in Google, but the narrower term “find a hospital” only has 249,000 results. This simply means that the narrower term not only has less competition but also a purpose. A person searching with a narrow keyword know what they want to find. Step back from marketing for a minute and try to think like your customers. It won’t be long before you find the right narrow keyword. 2) Bad Keyword Targeting Of course you want your keywords to be number one. Top place is the logical position for prime sales, right? However, this is not where you want your ad to be when using Google Adwords. The main reason is that many people clicking on the top ads just click on it because it’s the first ad, which means the visitor might be serious or might not be. Since you pay for each of those clicks, you want to save money by staying away from those kinds of clickers. Your goal should be to the third or fourth position. This is a position that is most likely to only be visited by serious visitors who know what they want. Because of this reality, a lower position means that you will have fewer clicks, but the ones you get will be more productive. Be smart when you’re bidding for keyword position. Time spent carefully planning your placement strategy will maximize profits while reducing your CPC expenditures. 3)Failing To Have A Landing Page {Unrealistic expectations are almost always the cause of the number one mistake made by people new to Adwords. They get excited about their potential earnings and start counting money they’ve not yet made. They simply look at the numbers in their market, realize it has a lot of potential, and believe they will be able to have 10,000 visitors in the first month, resulting in tons of profits. Unfortunately, 10,000 visitors will not translate to 10,000 conversions, especially for an untested ad. For the profit to exist the traffic needs to convert. The only way to accomplish this is to start off with a small amount of traffic, and then grow as the number of conversions grow. This is the only way to ramp up your profits to the maximum with Adwords. |You need to make your landing page match your ad. You campaign will not be successful if you ad does not go with your landing page. A very common mistake made by Internet marketers is failing to make their landing page headline match the content of their ad. By making the two match, any potential customers can know they are where they want to be when they click through to your landing page. In effect, you will be able to increase your conversion rate. |You should also focus on testing and optimizing your campaigns so you know which keywords are doing the job and which aren’t. If you just go ahead and place hundreds of keywords in one single ad group, the popular ones will quickly be bombarded with clicks, while the ones that are less popular won’t get many clicks. This will cause problems in the long term since you won’t know which keywords earned you the most clicks. Therefore, you should only begin with 10-15 keywords with each ad group, that way you will easily be able to analyze their performance. This will help you create a highly targeted campaign that’s getting results due to the best converting keywords. |Most beginning marketers believe they should set their daily budget low when they are starting out, giving them the chance to see if their campaign is working and to make any necessary changes. However, they keep forgetting that when you set your daily budget too low, your ads won’t show much, which means you won’t be able to achieve the number of clicks you want to test out your advertising campaign. If you can’t get the right amount of information to test the waters, you should try to allow for more money in your daily budget.
