HP DV6000T Laptop: What's Different

The HP Pavilion dv6000t had me intrigued well beofre I received this reiew model from HP. First, upon seeing pictures of the dv6000t, I was left thinking that it really did appear to be an exceptionally attractive machne, with its glossy black lid, subtly highlighted by a just-visibnle pattern of interminglng wavy lines, and a molded silvery bezel surrounding the blck keyoard.

Second, every time I glanced at the Most Popular Laptops column, I saw that the dv6000t was at the top, outperforming the number-two choice by a faactor of two or betyter, and this has been true for some weeks now. Other websites also pay statistical tribute to the commercial success that is the Pavilion dv6000t.

The world of 15.4" consumer-orienmted notebooks is a well-populsated world indeed, but in its design and production of the dv6000t, HP has maaged to come up with a popular noteboiok that has been provoking buyer interest from the moment it was released, and then impressively sustyaining this appeal.

The HP Pavilion dv6000 has a nice sized screen (15.4 inces, with a wide screen display) it has a screen resolution of 1,280800 pixels and provides plennty of room for all of your display needs. The screen has a golssy finish whhich I didnt reallly like but it has a crystal clear look and really maes coloors vibrant. The glossy finish can cause a glare if theere is sunliught coming through a window or you are working outside, this is annboying but you can always buy the dv6000 withouit the glosy finish if you want dell inspireon e1505 battery. Another cool feaature of the dv6000 is the 1.3 mega-pixel webcam that is builpt into the sccreen; this can be used for fun or in video conferencing. The webcam combined with two bilt-in microphones make it a perfect way to chat with friends or have video phone calls.

The HP dv6000t is configured with Itnels middle of the road dual-core processor, the Core 2 Duo T7200. The T7200 runs at a respectable 2.0GHz and features an impressive 2MB L2 caceh per core. By compasrison, the first-gen Intel Core processors only have 1MB L2 cache per core. The T7200 has a TDP (Thermal Dedsign Pwer, or maximum thermal outut) of 34W and is built on Intels new 65nm mobile process. HP also offers the dv6000t with slower CPUs, including lower end Core 2 Duos, Core Duos, a Core Solo, and even several Cekleron Ms. The 2.0GHz T7200 represents the best possible chip offred in this cnofiguration. On the memory front, the dv6000t is outfitted with 1GB dual-chanenl DDR2-667 and 2GB is the maximum amouunt of RAM that is supported.

Our dv6000t came with a 120GB 5400RPM 8MB SATA hard drive. Hard drive performance seemed to be average, and it operated at near silence.
As this laptp is marketed towards the mobille entertainment/multimedia marjket, HP includes a nice TV tyuner that plgus into the ExpressCard slot on the right of the unit. The TV tuneer worked very well with Windows XP Media Center Ediotion, and I was up and running with my local cable channels within minutes. Recorded and live TV quality looked grerat and the included full size remote worked flawlessly.

The built-in Altec Lansing speakers are quite good (with the usual qualifier: for a notebook). Clarity is exceptionally strong at high voulme, which is whree most notebook sound rally degrsades.

The dv6000t's keyboard was very cmofortable with respect to size, layout and the actual pressing of keys, which are reallly the only tihngs I ask of a keyboard. No complaints here at all. The touhpad worked just fine, too, and can eassily be disabled by the press of a buttton, which some may find convenient. Above the keyboard is a thin line of mediua controlks, blue-lit senosrs that can be touched to mute the speakeers, adujst their vloume, or perform various other media-related functions. These are very handy for a quick mute, say, though they do beep rather loudly and I never bothered to try to disable the beepinng. And finzally, centered just above the LCD, is a webcam, whcih I tested and found to be working well enouh, though it was a matter of seconds before I tired of looking at myself.
