Thousands of scuba open water divers visit Florida on a Florida scuba holiday due to the large variety of dive sites you can find on the Florida coastline. Although Florida is known as the "sunshine state" not many people understand that Florida has more coastal waters than any other US state. First, let's look at the Atlantic coast. Up and down this coast line are 3 lines of reefs, outer reef, middle reef and inner reef creating some of the best scuba dive sites from Jupiter, just north of West Palm Beach, all the way down to Key West. A fantastic event up and down this coast is the steady current of warm water which is The Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream runs near to the shores heading north before veering out into the Atlantic. Starting at Jupiter and working your way down south along the coastline you will find an incredible choice of reefs and shipwrecks to investigate with some scuba dive sites like Governor's River Walk Reef having well known ships such as the Shasha boerkanier which is one of three shipwrecks at this dive site. Inexperienced Florida scuba enthusiasts will find a diversity of gorgeous reefs in West Palm Beach. Reefs such as Breakers Reef covered in marine life. Further south along the coastline is Fort Lauderdale. This is one of the most well-liked destinations for divers and non scuba divers alike. Apart from the canals and waterways Ft. Laud offers unusual diving opportunities such as Tenneco Towers or Oil Platforms. Venture further south and you arrive at Miami. Miami! Probably the only spot in the world you would expect to hit upon Army tanks on the seabed. Miami has a diverse range of dive sites for trainee and experienced divers and when you reflect on the choice of venues and sights out of the water it is a great place to go diving. Beyond Miami and travelling further south, no Florida scuba diving schedule would excude a visit to Key Largo or Key West. When you catch sight of the vast choice of diving sites available it's easy to see why Key Largo is one of the most well-liked diving destinations in the world. The locale around Key Largo is stunning in its diversity with wrecks, reefs and caves to be explored. The biggest wreck ever sunk off the coast of Florida is the USS Spiegel Grove and this difficult dive is rewarded with the amazing sight of one massive shipwreck now occupied by some very huge fish. The are many other wrecks including the Duane and Bibb which can be dived by less experienced divers. When it comes to underwater photography or macro photography Molasses Reef provides an ideal opportunity to practice your underwater skills with the shallow waters and stunning marine life creating the fantastic colors and lighting. Key Largo is the most excellent known by the Florida scuba community for its wide range of scuba dive sites but Key West is the spot to go for the nightlife and culture if you do trek to The Keys. Key West provides some of the finest entertainment in The Keys with the streets full of jugglers, singers and other entertainers going through their routines in the street. With some great scuba dive sites Key West is many peoples favorite destination.. So far we have had a very fleeting look at the Atlantic coast and have not even started looking on the west coast, The Gulf of Mexico, but that is for another day.
